To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we're looking to add a Sr. Mechanical Product Engineer located in Farmington Hills, MI.

Reporting to the Sr. Mechanical Engineer Manager, the Sr. Mechanical Product Engineer  is responsible for designing and developing mechanical packaging solutions for passenger vehicle/truck systems containing mechanical components/assemblies, electronic printed circuit boards, interconnect/cable assemblies.  The engineer must be willing to work with a team lead as well as work independently taking design tasks from concept through design release

What a typical day looks like:

  • Interface with Windchill PDM for document storage
  • Attend weekly ME/project team meeting; discuss current work, planned next steps; participate in problem solving; share ideas with team members/review timelines & deadlines.
  • Attend PDT meetings with customers; discuss design progress; tool progress; component / assembly progress; testing progress; PPAP progress; launch and production readiness
  • Provide direction to CAD designers to create, manage & release 3D part/assembly modeling
  • Strong interface with OEM engineers, understand OEM part release and change process
  • Search/Chase data/info required from customer & manufacturing
  • Engineering calculations/tolerance analysis; or interfacing with simulation team (structural/optical)
  • Respond to questions/emails/calls as required
  • Ad hoc discussions (zoom call, email, phone call)
  • Create, manage & populate Engineering Change Orders for design changes (Agile)
  • Work with System Engineer to define general program and specific product requirements
  • Develop proposed solution/part/assembly
  • Review with key stakeholders – lead, HW PCBA design team, manufacturing, customer, supplier & software.
  • Very good understand of 3D modeling, 2D drawing, GD&T, engineering calculations/simulations
  • Support tooling engineers with DFM (design for Manufacturing) documents, sometimes require OEM approval
  • Support Prototype builds, build parts for testing and test/validation engineer
  • Lead Mechanical Reviews with stakeholders (Managers, Directors, Customers, etc.)
  • Update and finalize – provide model/drawing information to manufacturing, supplier, internal team

The experience we're looking to add to our team:

  • 10+ years of experience
  • Assist experienced CAD operator to design and develop 3D CAD models
  • Develop 2D drawings, understand GD&T and critical measurement for piece parts and assemblies
  • Tolerance analysis/RSS
  • Experience with design for Automotive products or similarly rugged products
  • Working knowledge using a PDM system/knowledge of Agile & Windchill would be a plus
  • Design of parts for die casting, injection molding, sheet metal processes

Here are a few of our preferred experiences:

  • Understand Siemens NX/CATIA, be able view parts in Solidworks
  • Windchill PDM experience
  • Agile experience
  • GD&T/DFMEA/Tolerance Stackups/RSS
  • Interfacing PCB (printed circuit board) with Plastic components (lighting; switches; etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of Lighting (Interior)
