Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA seeks to fill a full-time 9-month academic appointment to serve as Assistant Professor and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program Director in the Department of Nursing. There is also administrative work undertaken during the summer months for which a stipend will be provided. The department is looking for candidates to provide engaged leadership in the day-to-day operations of the campus-based BSN program. The successful candidate will hold a tenure-track appointment in the Department of Nursing and will also be appointed as BSN Program Director for a 3-year period, with an annual review, as well as eligibility to be reappointed as the Program Director for an additional 3-year period. The BSN program is a campus-based program offered during fall and spring semesters. The successful candidate will be an experienced nurse educator and administrator- with the ability to build collaborative relationships, with demonstrated competence in teaching and scholarship, curriculum development, program evaluation, and leadership. Mentorship is available. If hired, the candidate must be willing to relocate to the Spokane area. 

Essential Functions

  • Teaches nine credits per academic year on topics that may include any of the following: medical/surgical, psych-mental health and pediatrics in the undergraduate nursing curriculum. A nine-credit course release will be provided for work related to the role of Program Director for the BSN Program with the total workload each academic year equivalent to 18 credits. The teaching credits may include didactic and/or practicum courses in the BSN program.
  • Provides day-to-day operational leadership for the Department of Nursing BSN program in accordance with the mission and values of the department, school, and the university.
  • Collaborates with faculty to ensure the integrity of the BSN curriculum.
  • Ensures compliance with CCNE accreditation standards and Washington state regulations for nursing education programs.
  • Communicates across all levels of the BSN program through regular contact and meetings with faculty, staff, and BSN Council.
  • Plans and coordinates the scheduling of courses with other departments and disciplines as necessary.
  • Works with both core and adjunct faculty to provide teaching coverage for all BSN coursework.
  • Oversees BSN staff including BSN Clinical Placement Manager and BSN Program Coordinator.
  • Serves as the program liaison with clinical agencies and collaborates with staff to orient students to clinical requirements, maintain student records, maintain compliance with health and safety requirements, and provide clinical agency updates to appropriate program faculty and staff.
  • Provides guidance and mentorship to faculty teaching in the BSN program and staff who support the program.
  • Collaborates with program faculty and staff to ensure that academic advising processes are cohesive and facilitates student success. 
  • Provides program updates and reports at departmental councils/committees and School of Health Sciences committees.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Associate Dean/Chief Nurse Administrator.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned PhD in Nursing, Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), or a doctoral degree in a related field is acceptable if the master's degree is in nursing.
  • Master of Science degree in nursing (a master's degree in a related field is acceptable if the doctoral degree is in nursing).
  • Valid, unencumbered Washington state RN license, or ability to obtain prior to hire.
  • Three years of administrative leadership experience in a BSN nursing program (Faculty Lead, Chair, Assistant Director, Director)
  • Evidence of curriculum development, program planning, evaluation, assessment, and accreditation processes.
  • Minimum of three years of experience teaching in an accredited pre-licensure registered nursing program.
  • Minimum of three years recent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse.
  • Demonstrated evidence of creating inclusive learning environments that address the needs of diverse learners, including students from groups that have been traditionally underrepresented or marginalized in Nursing.


Hiring Salary

$79,898 - $85,225; commensurate with education and experience; Stipend for BSN Director: $6,000
