Description

The Manager of Supply Chain Planning (also known as Planning Manager or PM) is responsible for maintaining and ensuring the successful execution of a division operating plan for a Harbor Freight Tools Main Distribution Center (MDC). The PM owns all tools and processes related to multi shift and multi-site planning across various horizons (daily, monthly, quarterly, annually). The PM will ensure the operating plan is fully calibrated based on forecasts and DC labor capability. This includes following up to variances in performance to plan with operations leadership, comparing actual volumes to forecast, and making the necessary adjustment to align tools to the current state of the business. The PM maintains the operating plan, and prepares all requisite outputs for SIOP (Sales, Inventory, Operations Planning). With strategic guidance and partnership from the Sr. Manager of Operations Planning, the PM coordinates with MDC Senior leadership (OMs, AGMs, and GMs) to secure buy in to the operating plan, submits staffing requests to Talent Acquisition, and prepares business cases for equipment need based on volume movements or the introduction of new processes to the operating model.
The PM disseminates their operating plan via a team of Shift Planning Managers (SPMs) and their staff. The PM provides direct support to their SPMs and ensures they are able to provide real time representation to the operations team on their respective shift. The PM must be able to move between shifts as needed to support all of the managers on their team, and must be able to drive continuous improvement initiatives across all their shifts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides daily plans for Labor Utilization and Staffing, Outbound Shipping, Inbound Unloading, and Transfers
  • Measure and improve Supply Chain metrics such as fill rate, inventory days on hand, staffing levels, building capacity, zone compliance, and labor hours budget
  • Optimize flow of goods into and out of the facility
  • Utilize past trends and current forecast to identify risks in staffing levels
  • Utilize past trends and current forecast to optimize DC slotting strategy
  • Supervise and support leaders who manage daily waving operations to include label printing and their distribution
  • Interview, select, orient, train, coach, counsel and discipline associates.
  • Communicates values, strategies, objectives; assigns responsibilities / work to their team
  • Plan, monitor and appraise performance results to meet financial targets and service levels
  • Identify and explain budget & service level variances across the DC; partnering to identify corrective actions with OPS owners
  • Create a climate of openness, trust and respect
  • Initiate and foster a spirit of cooperation and collaboration
  • Educate and direct associates to follow and maintain established company, federal, state and local policies and procedures
  • Enforce systems, policies, procedures and productivity standards
  • Maintain and keep accurate staff attendance records and other attendance standards
  • Schedule associates and assign work; monitor and revise schedules and work as needed
  • Research, compile, initiate, sort and analyze production performance records and data
  • Resolve and report production issues
  • Answer questions and respond to requests by internal customers
  • Ensure the work environment is maintained in a clean & safe status by reporting violations and Identifying needed repairs
  • Ensure associates have the proper tools to perform their duties
  • Open to new ideas and ways to achieve results
  • Attend education workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional organizations
  • Must be willing to work across multiple shifts, nights weekends and days as needed to support their operation.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of the job
  • Additional duties as assigned by manager


Scope

Requirements

Job Qualifications – Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 4-6 Years of management experience supervising production personnel (preferred in Distribution)
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Multi-tasking skills
  • Knowledge of business concepts, supervisory & leadership skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Self-starter with genuine investigative talents, ability to find, analyze, and present information to assist in developing operational strategy and efficiency within the distribution center environment

Physical Requirements:
General office environment requiring ability to:
  • Stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time
  • Speak and listen to others in person and over the phone
  • Use keyboard and read from computer screen and reports
  • Lift up to 50lbs
