Job Summary This position is for a senior attorney responsible for providing legal support and coordination on more complex matters or projects; providing legal support to divisional management on specific business issues; representing the company in dealings with applicable regulatory agencies; and providing advice and guidance to less experienced attorneys as required.

Responsibilities include:

1. Provide legal advice, support, and coordination on complex provider or network-related legal matters. Provide and initiate legal review, analysis, and research with respect to other significant and complicated legal issues. Support contract negotiations.
2. Serve as an integrated team member within BCBSTX plan. Establish and maintain relationships with various operating department management teams through prompt and accurate legal assistance on a variety of issues.
3. Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and provide support for implementation of changes necessitated by such developments.
4. Advise management on complex legal matters, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws. This includes legal advice on insurance policies, provider contracts, self-funded accounts, government contracts, regulatory matters, general business matters and contracts, as well as health care law and insurance law.
5. Keep abreast of all pertinent laws, trends, court rulings, etc., as they relate to provider or network-related matters.
6. Provide functional advice, training, and guidance to professional staff and attorneys when assigned.
7. Consistently demonstrate effective communication, leadership, tact, and diplomacy within the company and in dealings with other entities while representing and protecting the interest of the company.
8. Comply with HIPAA, Corporate Integrity, Compliance Program policies and other applicable corporate and departmental policies.
9. Maintain complete confidentiality of company business.
10. Make presentations as needed within HCSC on legal, regulatory and Company policy matters.
11. Maintain communication with management regarding development within areas of assigned responsibilities and perform special projects as required or requested.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

* Juris Doctor Degree and a license to practice law in the state where the legal department is located.
* 8 years' experience as an attorney with demonstrated understanding/experience of the health care or insurance field.
* Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
* Negotiation and diplomacy skills.

PREFERRED JOB REQUIREMENTS:

* 3-5 years recent experience in health care law and/or insurance law.
*Contract negotiation experience

Please note, this is a hybrid role which requires in-office hours 3 days a week at our Richardson, TX office location.
