Howard University College of Medicine invites applications from outstanding biomedical scientists for the position of Chair of the Department of Microbiology at the Associate or full Professor level. This is an endowed position for those qualified. Howard University College of Medicine continues to prioritize serving the underserved, providing the best education for its students and residents, care for its community, and undertaking research that focuses on relieving health disparities. The department has a long tradition of excellence in infectious disease immunology, cancer biology, bacterial genetics, antimicrobial drug and vaccine research. This is an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished scientist to lead a basic science department at a renowned medical school in the country. The Chair will lead a diverse group of faculty with a proven record of educating medical students, training of doctoral graduate students and grant acquisitions. The Chair will report to the Dean of the College of Medicine and provide opportunities for growth and collaboration with other basic and clinical departments within and outside the institution.
Applicants must have a PhD or MD/PhD degree and be eligible for tenure at the rank of Associate and full Professor. Candidates must have an established research program that complements the department's existing research strengths. Candidates must also have current research funding and a strong record of administrative experience, academic leadership, and commitment to teaching.
