Hunterdon Otolaryngology and Allergy Associates, with offices in Flemington and Hillsborough NJ, is seeking a BC/BE otolaryngologist to join us in practice. We have a private practice with a nearly 35 year history. Our reputation in the community and amongst our colleagues is excellent, reflected by our capture of over 80% of ENT referrals in Hunterdon County.
We practice out of one hospital, Hunterdon Medical Center (HMC) and a physician owned ASC. We are offering an employed position to start, with an option to pursue future partnership in our practice. We would certainly consider a candidate who does not wish to pursue partnership as well, however. A surgeon in our practice would eventually enjoy the option for partial ownership in our ASC. HMC is an independent facility with no plans to merge with a larger health system. We are a very collegial group who values transparency and fairness. We have never had an ENT practitioner terminate their employment or partnership with us. We also prioritize work-life balance. Call requirements are quite tolerable at 1:5 and further eased by our obligation to cover only one hospital and ED. Partners have the option to work 4 days per week, if desired. We are looking for a physician who desires a long term practice situation, a supportive professional environment, a reasonable work schedule and a superior compensation package.
The position is open due to the retirement of two senior partners, Drs. Douglas Worden and Stanley Sheft. Dr. Worden retired last spring, leaving us short-handed and essentially assuring that a new provider will become busy quite quickly. Dr. Sheft plans to retire within the next 12 months. He sees general ENT patients but also has a subspecialty interest in head and neck endocrine surgery. Historically, he has performed 60+ thyroid and parathyroid surgeries yearly. A candidate with an interest in endocrine surgery would be of particular interest to us, but we will consider a generalist or subspecialty trained ENT, as we expect to ultimately need to recruit an additional provider to replace Dr. Sheft. We are also currently recruiting an APN for ENT and anticipate adding another for our allergy practice in the near future as well. Year over year, our patient encounters are up 13%, despite the loss of Dr. Worden.
The group consists of 5 ENTs and 2 allergists. One of our ENT partners, Dr. Renukuntla, is fellowship trained in facial plastics. We average seeing 25 – 30 patients daily and have block time at both the hospital and ASC ORs. We currently do not offer evening or weekend office hours. The Flemington location is our main office and is located next to Hunterdon Medical Center. The Hillsborough office is
approximately 25 minutes east of the Flemington location and has helped us expand our service area. The practice also has an audiology department offering the full range of diagnostics, as well as hearing aid dispensation. The Flemington office has 13 plus exam rooms and offices for each physician. Additionally, there is a dedicated procedure room where in-office surgical procedures can be safely and conveniently performed. We routinely perform balloon sinuplasty, plastics, tubes, biopsies and frenotomies in the office. We have an MA or LPN assigned to each physician daily. We have a triage nurse working the telephone and surgical schedulers for the OR. Our billing and collections remain in house. We currently employ 35 people in the practice including the physicians.
We have a diverse group of partners with various clinical and outside interests. Hunterdon County is known for its bucolic landscapes, open spaces and abundance of outdoor activity options. It is commutable to both New York and Philadelphia and is home to many highly ranked employers. Hunterdon County is one of the wealthiest counties in the nation per capita, yet it enjoys a relatively low cost of living index. Home values and real estate taxes are reasonable, and our schools are among the best rated in the state of NJ and boast a history of strong collegiate placement to many top ranked universities. The Jersey Shore is just 90 minutes away.
