Kamehameha Schools is recruiting for a Groundskeeper to join our Kapalama Campus Grounds & Landscaping team.
This is a Full-Time position, with a 40 hr/week schedule.
If you have grounds and landscaping experience along with any of these following areas, we invite you to apply!
- Experience using hand tools & lawn equipment
- New Landscape Installation
- Grading and planting
- Irrigation Installation & repair
- Tree Trimming
- 4-stroke small engine repair (minimum 3 years)
- 2-stroke small engine repair experience (minimum 3 years)
- Machine Operation Experience: Mini Excavator, Skid Steer, Backhoe, Wood Chipper
- Tool Experience: Dual Slope Laser Level, Grade Rod
Licensing Required: CDL B License and acceptable Traffic Abstract
Certification: Aerial Lift certification, ISA Certified, Dump Truck, Hauling Trailer under 10,000 gvw a plus!
We are open to hiring at a Level I, II or III.
Targeted pay rate is $22 - 24/hour + Benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision, Vacation & Sick Time, Matching 401k and more!)
Job Summary
This position that works with direction and supervision to perform general grounds keeping, event set up services, and provides assistance to other Groundskeepers and Utility Workers as needed.
Essential Responsibilities
Grounds keeping Services
- Reviews work to be performed in advance with Groundskeeper II/III to ensure understanding of work-related risks and proper mitigation to ensure safety.
- Assists with assembling materials and tools for work to be performed.
- With guidance, prepares work areas for work to be performed, and cleans work areas, machines, and equipment following work completion.
- With direction, may independently perform general grounds keeping services.
Safety
- Attends all technical and safety- training, including on-the-job training, uses all PPE, and adheres to safety guidance.
- Reviews work to be performed in advance with Groundskeepers II or III to ensure understanding of work-related risks and proper mitigations to ensure safety.
- Reports all safety hazards to supervisor and/or immediately corrects if able to.
Administrative
- Participates in campus and department events and activities as scheduled.
- Adheres to all employee handbook protocols and policies including mandatory reporting.
- Constructively identifies and suggests ways to improve organizational effectiveness and operational efficiency.
Position Requirements
Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Prior landscaping experience.
- CDL B License
- Good work ethic, including punctuality and good attendance
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills and knowledge; ability to demonstrate increasing competence with training and experience
- Willingness to accept and follow directions
- Ability to read and comprehend training materials
- Ability to read, understand, and follow safety instructions
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work flexible schedules to accommodate after-hours school-related functions and activities
- Demonstrated values of inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic computer knowledge.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Often requires physical work; lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds
- Often requires walking/standing, bending/crouching/reaching/etc., and at times sitting
- Manual dexterity and strength to work with hand tools.
Working Conditions (including environmental conditions)
- Work may involve exposure to extreme temperatures and contact with hazardous materials, dust, dirt, smoke, unpleasant odors, loud noises, etc.
- Often work outdoors and indoors.
- Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday during normal business hours; evening or weekend hours maybe required to meet goals and objectives.
