Description

Kelly Science has a great opportunity to join a growing company as a  Cell & Molecular Scientist in the Kalamazoo MI area.  This candidate would be responsible for working independently to perform experiments and laboratory-related administrative tasks that fulfill the Company's needs for the R&D Testing division. Responsibilities may include project management, communicating with study sponsors and troubleshooting technical issues to ensure work is completed accurately and efficiently.

Location: Kalamazoo MI
Shift: 1st shift
Salary Range: $70,000-$80,000/year ($34-$39/hour)
 
 
Lab Responsibilities:

  • Perform cell culture work according to company SOPs
  • Perform cell and protein-based assays for sponsored research studies (i.e., toxicity, ELISA, etc.)
  • Perform RNA/DNA sample processing, qPCR-based gene expression, genotyping and NGS testing
  • Document procedures accurately and timely, following company SOPs and regulatory guidelines
  • Analyze and review data for timely release of final study reports
  • Draft study reports for sponsored research studies
  • Recognize and document experimental deviations/irregularities and assess the impact on data integrity
  • Lead investigations of unusual or questionable results to identify root cause(s) and assure implementation of corrective action(s)
  • Assist in the training of laboratory staff and/or students, interns, as necessary
  • Assist with equipment and laboratory maintenance, as necessary
  • Evaluate instrumentation and provide recommendations to management for developing new services, or improving existing laboratory services
  • Establish new technical protocols and draft new SOPs
  • Perform periodic review and updates of SOPs
  • Conduct in-house studies to expand existing services and develop new testing services
  • Develop scientific presentations for scientific meetings and publications

Project Management Responsibilities:
 
  • Follow company procedures for communicating with other company departments and to track study progress
  • Ensure supplies are ordered and on time
  • Coordinate with study sponsors regarding study needs and updates
  • Maintain records in project management software to ensure real-time updates are captured with regard to study progress and timelines
  • Assist with study design development, pricing and proposal writing, and discussing study results with customers
 
 
 
Qualifications:
 
  • MS in molecular biology or related field with 2 years of industry experience preferable, OR:
  • BS in related field plus 5 years industry experience
  • Hands-on laboratory experience with cell culture and genomic testing methods
  • Ability to conduct presentations effectively, professionally and comfortably to customers/peers/management
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
  • Organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines while working independently or as part of a cross-functional team
  • Strong IT skills (Microsoft programs, Google applications)
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, managers and clients
  • Proactive, can-do attitude and ability to work independently and as part of a team
