Design Engineer | Clearwater, FL

Objectives:

This position reports to R&D supporting new product and process design and development, maintain legacy Intraocular lens (IOL) and Insertion product specifications, tools and systems designed specifically for use in the manufacture of surgical products.

As a CAD Designer, the role will partner with technical disciplines of all types for input to create product and tool models representing new ideas, maintain control of design level specifications for prototyping, and build and test process development tools and equipment for the manufacture of new and legacy surgical products.

Additionally, the role will create comprehensive design specification packages to include design BOMs, machine part and component specifications, assembly specifications with tolerances based on functional requirements, and interactive tolerance and stack up analyses.

The role must be hands on and highly interactive with all disciplines, providing design input and specifications as well helping the team determine a test and development plan and a qualification strategy from which the new product or process will be integrated and validated for use.

The position will identify and maintain a close working relationship with machine shops and machine tool builders serving as a technical interface to provide part design and technical information for fabrication and construction of prototype fixtures for test, development and integration as a validated machine tools for use in manufacturing of class-3 medical device products.

The role will also serve as a local CAD Administrator responsible for:

- Starting product and process design systems

- Sustaining local CAD archives

- Creating revisions to specifications on behalf of all of Surgical R&D

- Requests from B&L Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing and QA engineering.

Responsibilities:

Uses SOLIDWORKS CAD design software for modeling and drafting operations including:

- Design for manufacturing concepts to product and process designs.

- Medical device design and development.

- Molded part design and designs requiring high precision machining operations.

Works closely with project leads and development team to ensure documentation is created and maintained - capturing the teams design intent and the parts critical form, fit and functional requirements.

Partners with process development team to providing support for creation of design reports, test and validation protocols; operating, maintenance and calibration SOPs; and documents for incoming inspection and requirements for release of materials and components for product manufacturing.

Supports the development and validation team by contributing to plans and strategies for validating new products, systems and processing equipment.

Starts our product and process design systems as well as sustain our local CAD archive, making revision to specifications on behalf of all of Surgical R&D.

Has experience in AutoCAD, specifically for use in making and maintaining facilities and process line and equipment layouts.

Manages the ordering of components to construct prototype fixtures as well as system assemblies for use in product and process test and development.

Charged with requests for quotes and for maintaining project-specific budgets and BOMs.

 

Requirements:

B.S. or higher degree with at least two years of experience in Mechanical, Industrial or Chemical Engineering or at least 5 years of design experience in product or machine system design technology.

Proficient in SOLIDWORKS CAD design software with expertise in modeling and drafting operations.

Experience with:

- GD&T and applied standards.

- Design for manufacturing concepts to product and process designs.

- Medical device or other highly regulated industries.

- Molded part design and designs requiring high precision machining operations.

Experience with AutoCAD, specifically for use in making and maintaining facilities and process line and equipment layouts.

CNC programming experience as well experience in machine part fabrication a plus
