POSITION SUMMARY

The Mechanic reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and is based out of our Hendersonville, North Carolina location. This individual will be responsible for maintaining, servicing, and repairing plant and production equipment, performing PMs, and completing work orders. 

 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (essential functions of the job)

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform repairs and maintenance to mechanical and electrical equipment along with building systems.
  • Conduct periodic equipment inspections as part of PM performance and evaluate requests for repair
  • Monitor the installation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of equipment to ensure optimum usage and quality
  • Ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements
  • Complete all work in accordance with established safety procedures 
  • Maintain equipment manuals, complete work orders and inspection reports, document work hours and other administrative tasks as required
  • Accountable for food safety, food quality, and regulatory requirements for their position 
  • Encouraged to notify management about actual or potential food safety issues
  • Adopt and maintain all SQF requirements for their position
  • Empowerment to work with supervision to resolve food safety and food quality issues within their scope of work
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned
  • Vast knowledge on repairs of pneumatic and hydraulic controls and aseptic process
  • Understanding of heat exchangers and steam controls
  • Ability to adjust, repair, and exchange proximity sensors, fuses, motor starters, relays, switched and timers
  • Perform robotics troubleshooting and repairs; robotic cell setup and changeover including program touch up, end-of-arm tooling adjustments, and fixture set-up. Use of hand tools, power tools, and various measuring/testing devices related to robots, welding, and pneumatic/hydraulic fixtures and equipment
  • Perform blow molding troubleshooting and repairs; Responsible for required adjustments needed to fulfill the product specification requirements such as weight, color distribution, and cycle times. Responsible for injection and blow molding equipment. Setup molds as required by production schedule. Documenting end-cycle process parameters and any tool issues as appropriate. The ability to monitor the process and show an awareness of issues and demonstrate corrective actions to address those concerns/issues. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical components, hot machinery, pressurized hoses and pipes
  • Perform PLC Automations for Siemens; recommission industrial equipment including robotics systems. Assist with maintenance on technical repairs or troubleshooting. Focus on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Maintain/upgrade a PLC-based control system for an automated packaging line equipment. Able to accurately read/follow schematics.

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Four to six  years of Industrial / Manufacturing mechanic experience
  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Mechanical, Pneumatics, and Electrical (120vac-480vac) knowledge
  • Detailed oriented and can multi-task
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

 

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the food/beverage industry a plus
  • Previous experience in Manufacturing or production environment a plus
  • Problem-solving skills

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

This position requires sufficient physical ability to work in a production setting.

 

FREQUENT:  Ability to talk and hear; ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend, and/or crouch; push/pull; lift up to 50 pounds; use of hands and fingers to operate machinery/equipment and all manual and electronic equipment in the area of responsibility.  Exposure to wet and humid conditions and fluctuations in ambient temperature (seasonal).

 

OCCASIONAL:  Squatting, kneeling, ability to reach above and at shoulder height. Ability to wear a dust mask, and perform Confined Entry using LOTO program.  Exposure to toxic and corrosive chemicals.

 

VISION:  Ability to use close and distance vision, as well as color and peripheral vision with or without correction.  Must be able to visually detect obstacles and potential dangers in a fast-paced production environment involving high-speed equipment and powered industrial lift equipment.

 

HEARING:  Ability to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.  Exposure to noise levels from pumps, machinery, forklift traffic, bottle lines, and exhaust fans.
