Job Summary

Participates in analysis, design, programming, testing, documentation, implementation and auditing of multiple comprehensive Hospital Information Systems including the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and in support of revenue cycle, financial, accounting, human resources and supply chain operations (ERP). Assists in evaluation, analysis, maintenance and development of system functionality to meet business objectives including participating in project plan development/tracking and workflow analysis. Coordinates resolution of system process or performance issues interacting with functional users, internal and external technology resources. Serves as liaison between business units and IS technology teams as well as assists with end user education and training deployment.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Minimum Years of Experience: 5 Years of experience in a related business services area, considered super user in area of expertise with relevant IT experience
Substitutable Education & Experience: 5 Years of experience can be substituted for the following:
Associates Degree in Computer Science, Management Science, Business Administration, or related field, with 3 years of experience in related business systems area;


Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management Science, Business Administration, Health Information Management, or related field and 1 year of experience in field or related business system area (patient access, revenue cycle, financial, accounting, human resources and supply chain);

Completion of approved training or apprenticeship program.
Required Certifications/Licensure: Willing to obtain certification in Health IT Workforce Training (HIT) program within 6 months of position;


Must be willing to obtain vendor and/or technical EHR certification.
Required Training: Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

Essential Functions
  • Provides technical and application support to IS staff and end-users for Business System related issues.
  • Provides application support by identification and resolution of system problems, providing in-service training as required.
  • Develops documentation to support system implementations, program modifications and customizations including development of manuals, in-house diagrams and process flow charts according to department standards. Translates technical requirements and procedures into well-implemented business solutions.
  • Develops/Updates programs conforming to established internal or vendor recommended programming standards.
  • Utilizes in-depth understanding and knowledge of workflows, policies, and procedures,  business processes, regulatory requirements and best practices to :      
    • Analyze existing practices by facilitating communication, cooperation and information   from key users, ensuring patient safety and consistent practices throughout the   organization.             
    • Analyze trade offs between usability and performance needs.     
    • Resolve problems and recommends solutions through research, inquiry and data   analysis maintaining logs and tracking of issues.       
    • Design, redesign and analyze processes and apply knowledge to build software   application.             
    • Contribute to the preparation of testing scripts and participates in testing for   implementation, upgrades, and fixes.  Performs unit, system and integrated testing   tasks.
  • Collaborates with end users, business areas, IT, vendors and leadership to elicit, analyze, communicate, and validate system processes. Team participant and contributor.
  • Serves as project champion to promote the integration of technology into the clinical setting.
  • Works with trainers to develop tools and resources specific to the application. Contributors and testers.
  • Participates and supports project and team goals, objectives and timelines working with a sense of urgency and accuracy to ensure effective implementation.
  • Prepares and presents to different groups in an effective manner appropriate for the audience. Contributes to preparation of materials.
  • Documents needs assessments, processes, system requirements, change management, and user training materials to ensure successful communication to both technical team and the end user.
  • Assists in software selection and evaluates emerging technologies staying abreast of best practices.
  • Coordinates system acquisition and implementation of assigned applications, including hardware and software.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manages system set up and implementation.
  • Monitors system performance.
  • Participates in the planning and preparation of go-live implementation as well as projects, updates, patches, and other routine maintenance. Participates and implements.
  • Provides ongoing user support and training, when applicable, paying keen attention to user needs and opportunities to offer solutions and modify processes to improve patient care and related efficiencies.
  • Identifies reports and develops report specifications for report writers to meet the needs of the application user.
  • Documents support calls and ongoing issue management.
  • Communicates with vendors as needed for system performance problems and questions. Basic communication and problem identification.
  • Participates in short, medium and long range system planning.
  • Initiates and/or maintains project plan documentation.
  • Attends continuing education courses, seminars and conferences to keep abreast of Information Technology developments.
  • Participates in the development and management of Policies & Procedures, including contingency plans related to HR/Financial Systems implementation and use.
  • Follows “Service Excellence” guidelines.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as required in an emergency, e.g., fire or disaster.
