In the Payment Networks organization, we are responsible for driving global commerce and enabling all transaction types that come through the Mastercard network. Our team is responsible for the customer experience, testing tools, and customer testing environment to ensure all systems are working as expected.

As a software engineer at Mastercard, you will be responsible for the analysis, design, development and delivery of software solutions. You will also define requirements for new applications and customizations, adhering to standards, processes and best practices.

About the Role

Software Engineers at Mastercard design and code artificial intelligence, cloud, and machine learning platforms that provide mission-critical insights to many of the world's leading organizations and governments. As a Software Engineer, you will deliver these products and solutions with speed and agility as part of a small team. This will involve developing high-performing, highly scalable software solutions and products for some of the world's top brands. Specific tasks vary depending on the project and the business unit that you join in.

As a Principal Software Engineer at Mastercard, you are expected to perform the following general responsibilities:

Work on complex enterprise-wide initiatives spanning multiple services/programs and drive resolution

Work with business/product owners to architect and deliver on new services to introduce new products and bundles

Drive the architectural design, including dependent services, service interactions, and policies

Take ownership to improve the customer experience of an entire set of services/applications sold as products or bundled services

Apply judgment and experience to balance trade-offs between competing interests

Consult across teams and across organization lines to identify synergies and reuse opportunities

Write recommendations for job promotions based on an unbiased view of one's accomplishments

Conduct technical interviews for hiring engineering staff and raising the performance bar

Identify and raise awareness of Silo-ed behaviors within the organization and teams

Mentor and guide software engineers to improve engineering productivity, quality, and technology policy compliance



All About You

Proficient in promoting and coaching teams on full stack development and facilitating end-to-end service ownership

Has experience in leading and coaching teams to perform software planning and estimation for large scale complex programs

Has strong business and customer knowledge that is used to drive decisions to meet Mastercard business and technical strategy in delivery of products from the program

Proficient in driving trade-off discussions to set the right development capacity based on value drivers (e.g., regulatory, security, new business, market parity, technical debt)

Proficient in evaluating

Proficient in cost-effectively architecting systems to meet the scaling needs of different markets (e.g., on soil or localization)

Has skills to succinctly articulate architecture patterns of complex systems, with business and technical implications, to executive and customer stakeholders

Proficient in guiding teams on automation/configuration management, deployment strategy, and logging and monitoring practices for high availability

Applies expertise of scalable and resilient architecture patterns and design to oversee the automation infrastructure, develop a strategic roadmap towards automation, and identify areas to improve upon scalability and sustainability

Proficient in defining and driving

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role.
