Senior Product Manager - TechnicalOverview

As a Senior Product Manager - Technical on the Mastercard Track team, you'll be responsible for developing inspiring B2B platform/product visions, derived from business needs, market opportunities, and technology trends. Using the Working Backwards method, you'll decompose business requirements and customer experiences into features and functions that drive the platform/product roadmap. You'll work with Technical Program Managers, Developers, UX designers, and internal customers to define the details behind the business requirements. You'll act as the voice of the business customer within the team and you'll have accountability for the platform services you own.

We're building a global B2B platform to help businesses of all sizes streamline how they manage payments when buying or selling products & services. As a global business, the software capabilities you design for Mastercard will operate at massive scale requiring focus on performance, security and reliability.

You will work in our Mastercard tech hub in Arlington, VA that provides a state-of-the-art environment for technology teams to thrive in a collaborative Agile engineering culture. You will be a key part of how Mastercard transforms the B2B space to standardize, automate, and optimize digital payment efficiency for Buyers and Sellers.


Owns the Working Backwards document and vision for feature releases

Elicits and decomposes business requirements into platform requirements and user stories

Coordinates with product owners to identify feature-level development opportunities

Contributes input for the platform product portfolio and roadmap, prioritizing the backlog while defining the acceptance criteria for user stories

Recommends trade-off decisions on platform product features based on team capacity or feature complexity.

Uses runtime metrics of services in the market as a feedback loop into the backlog and balances the priorities against new feature requests

Makes use of research, user studies, metrics and competitive analysis to understand the platform and business needs for a platform product and inform the backlog

May participate with the business in customer research to inform platform product feature needs

Coordinates with PMTs and interdependent teams on platform product requirements

Keeps close to the design of the user experience

Continuously monitors feature development at the feature level adjusting throughout implementation as needed

Reviews product demo against acceptance criteria for the feature set

Prepares launches and monitors platform performance, adoption, and operational health for delivered features

Supports and participates in post-launch reviews and ensures feedback is reincorporated into features

Stays aligned with GTM plans for committed features by the team

Identifies issues that will keep the platform features from delivering on time and/or with the desired requirements and works with internal teams and customer service to identify, classify, and prioritize feature-level customer issues

All About You:

You take the time to fully learn the functionality, architecture, dependencies, and runtime properties of the systems involved with your projects. This includes the business requirements and associated use cases, Mastercard customer's experience, Mastercard's back office systems, the technical stack, interfaces and associated data flows, dependent services, runtime operations, and maintenance.

You understand and can explain the business context and the associated customer use cases

You are proficient at grooming user stories, setting entrance/exit criteria and prioritizing a platform product backlog

You understand the technologies supporting the platform product and are able to hold your own in debates with other PM-Ts, TPMs, and SDEs.

You recognize discordant views and take part in constructive dialog to resolve them

Your verbal and written communication is clear and concise

You improve team processes that accelerate delivery, drive innovation, lower costs, and improve quality

You have experience with the delivery of APIs and other services.

You are a self-starter and enjoy working in an Agile team focused on continuous improvement.

You are familiar with Kanban practices, workflow and know how to manage WIP.

You have a strong desire to deepen your expertise and collaborate within a team.

You are obsessed with details and getting it right for your team and product owner.

You have worked in start-ups or financial services-related firms.

You are passionate about the art of delivering the highest quality software to customers and doing the right thing.
