MedStar Health is looking for a Cath/IR Lab Technologist to join our team!

 

 We are looking for a Cath/IR Lab Technologist with demonstrated knowledge regarding location, use, and troubleshooting of complex technical equipment/instruments such as pulmonary artery catheter, intra-aortic balloon pump, portable x-ray, radial/brachial setup, coils, nitric oxide, thrombolysis catheters, peripheral and solid organ angiography and embolization, and peripheral interventions including balloon angioplasty and stenting. 

  

As a Cath/IR Lab Technologist, you will assist physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease and cardiac arrhythmias in the Cath/Angio/EP Lab specializing in the care of patients undergoing PTCA, stent placement, IABP placement, embolization of vascular bleeds, thrombolysis catheter insertion, and EP devices and ablations. Additionally, assists physicians with nonvascular procedures such as percutaneous drain placements, gastrostomies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, and other interventional radiology procedures. With increased experience provides resource and mentoring to new staff while exhibiting enhanced technical skills.

Primary Duties: 

  • Assists physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease in an invasive procedure arena, specializing in the care of patients undergoing: Basic and complex diagnostic catheterization procedures on adult patients with known and suspected congenital and acquired cardiac and peripheral vascular disease. Complex diagnostic procedures may include valvular, congenital defects, pulmonary involvement, radial, brachial and neck approaches, O.R (Operating Room), portable procedures, and any research protocols.  

  • Basic and complex interventional, angiography, and electrophysiological procedures. Patient care procedures such as sheath removal including IABP, temporary pacer and central venous and arterial catheters. Safe and efficient operation of equipment. Cross-training is mandatory. Performs in the role of data entry, generating accurate reports from diagnostic or interventional procedures. Assist in the orientation of employees and students as requested by management.  

  • Patient transportation, effective communication, and evaluation of patient status during the procedure: age and gender specific care, prep access site according to lab standard practice, and perform EKG lead placement, blood pressure and pulse oximetry setup for hemodynamic monitoring. Procedural requirements: room preparation and breakdown to include fluid preparation with accurate contrast concentrations, stocking rooms, daily quality control checks, radiographic, hemodynamic and computer setup. Prepare sterile procedure tray and patient sterile field appropriately. Observe occupational and radiation safety regulations (wearing badges, lead aprons, goggles, and gloves). Acquire and accurately document pertinent patient data. 

  • Function in all roles rotating during the day as defined: Room circulator – patient interaction, monitoring/vital signs and procedural documentation, setup equipment such as IABP, power injector, temporary pacer, biopsy, and sterile equipment/catheters/balloons/wires handoffs, running blood oximetry for cardiac output; assist physician with EP Diagnostic and Mapping systems including Carto. Scrub – maintains sterile procedure, infectious control, observe all fluid patency of catheters, balloons, and manifolds. Monitor – functions in the control room operating the x-ray equipment and hemodynamic monitoring equipment, reporting EKG, blood pressure, heart rate, pulse ox changes, recording hemodynamic pressures, scan pertinent patient information into hemodynamic system, assist with x-ray equipment and transfer images to digital archive.

 

Qualifications:  

  • High School Diploma or GED. 

  • Graduate of an Accredited Radiological Technology college  

  • 1-2 years Recent Cath/IR Lab experience  

  • Active Maryland license Required and Requires one of the following certifications: ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technology), CVRN-Level III Cardiovascular - Cath Lab, Intervention IF RCIS-certified CV (Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography), VI (Vascular Interventional Radiography) or CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International), RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist), or RCES (Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist  

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) within 90 Days.
