General Summary of Position

We have an opportunity available for a Director, Pharmacy Operations to join the Clinical Pharmacy team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.

Serves as the accountable leader for medication preparation, pharmacy automation and distribution systems as well as continual readiness programs in accordance with all federal and state laws relating to the storage, compounding, and distribution of medications, and the provision of pharmacy services. Works collaboratively within the highly integrated, cross-functional, matrix driven pharmacy leadership team and health system.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overall pharmacy operations including, inpatient central pharmacy and satellites, oncology and research pharmacies.
  • Responsible for management of personnel, supervises hiring, evaluating, disciplining, grievances and training among the team managed as outlined by departmental organizational structure.
  • Serves on the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
  • Assists with hospital pharmacy department policy and procedure development.
  • Reviews and recommends department's supply chain related initiatives.
  • Responsible for planning, organizing and developing the annual budget for approval. .
  • Supervises and evaluates the performance of pharmacy operations, and in partnership with stakeholders.
  • May place orders for supplies, verifies receipt of merchandise and approves bills for payment.
  • Responsible for contributions to strategic plan development of departmental goals and objectives as well as implementation of plan.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree Graduate training in an accredited College of Pharmacy required
    • Doctoral degree PharmD preferred
    • Candidates who are graduates of an ASHP-accredited pharmacy residency program (PGY-1), and/or ASHP-accredited Health System Pharmacy Administration residency program, and/or Master's degree preferred

    Experience

    • 5-7 years Pharmacy leadership experience required
    • 10+ years preferred
    • Candidate that can demonstrate progressively more responsible pharmacy experience including two years of experience in staff and operations management

    Licenses and Certifications

    • PHARMD - Licensed Pharmacist in the District of Columbia required
