General Summary of Position
Provides oversight for MedStar's compute environments both on premise and in the Public Cloud. Designs, develops and implements infrastructure solutions using state-of-the-art technologies that address current gaps or provides continual improvement opportunities. Provides oversight and may serve as a technical project manager for complex activities including architecture, project planning, implementing, tracking, development, and reporting. Works with MedStar and vendor technical resources to identify and recommend emerging technologies as well as create and document architectural design and development standards, methodologies and best practices. Trains technical staff on the use of these practices. Creates and conducts internal training sessions on selected infrastructure development technologies and techniques. Reviews infrastructure designs for appropriateness, feasibility and adherence to standards. Confers with and advises colleagues on policies and procedures, technical problems and methods. Consults with and advises users of various information systems infrastructure. Supervises and mentors junior infrastructure staff. Collaborates with other architects from all IS disciplines, including Application Architects and Engineers, Data Architects and Engineers, etc., to determine best suited environment, on-premises or in the Public Cloud (especially Azure), for technical solutions. Works closely with all hospital system departments to understand solution requirements.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures efficient execution of infrastructure processes. Leading activities to Identify, recommend, plan and implement improvement opportunities.
  • Facilitates infrastructure reviews and audits. Resolving any gaps with best practices.
  • Leads multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
  • Approves architectural design for technology solutions.
  • Designs and develops complex enterprise-wide infrastructures including contributing to the creation of the overall technical strategy.
  • Displays group leadership qualities. Provides coaching/mentoring, technical direction and guidance to IS Engineers and other staff.
  • Maintains up-to-date industry knowledge associated with both on-premise Infrastructure and Public Cloud infrastructure for best practices, leads cross-functional teams, and contributes to future architecture and technology migration plans.
  • Reviews and consults on third party vendor products for technical, architectural and technological soundness during vendor and product purchasing. Reviews infrastructure designs, architecture and methodologies of other members of the team and provides feedback as appropriate.
  • Serves as technical project manager for complex enterprise infrastructure improvement activities which includes: developing work plans, making project assignments, and correcting performance of all project participants including staff, consultants, vendors and others assigned to the project.
  • Creates and conducts internal training sessions for staff on application development technologies, techniques, standards and best practices.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree In Information Systems or Computer Science or an equivalent combination of education and technical experience required
    • Master's degree In Information Systems, Computer Science or an equivalent combination of education and technical experience preferred

    Experience

    • 5-7 years experience in designing and supporting large technical environments. Vendor and staff supervision experience. Technical project planning and management experience; Assessing all on-premise and Public Cloud infrastructure (especially Azure) capabilities against business requirements in order to architect in the best-fit application environment. required
    • Experience building on-premise and Public Cloud (especially Azure) infrastructure strategy preferred

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Working knowledge of technology requirements in the healthcare environment.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Expert knowledge of on-premise computer infrastructure.
    • Working knowledge of Public Cloud (especially Azure) computer infrastructure and capabilities
    • Expertly skilled at accomplishing tasks through an infrastructure Managed Service Provider
