General Summary of Position

Registered Nurse Intermediate Care/Medical Surgical Franklin Square

MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center is seeking new graduate RNs to fill roles in our Intermediate Care/Medical Surgical Unit.

Unit Highlights

48 Bed Unit
Mix of High Acuity Intermediate Care and Medical-Surgical patients
Chronic vents, insulin drips
Excellent leadership and tenured core group of RNs who work well together and with newer nurses on the unit
Flexible scheduling 

Key Responsibilities

As a Clinical Nurse you will deliver proficient nursing care to patients and families whose needs range from uncomplicated to highly complex. You will identify current and potential complex problems of specific patient populations and critically analyzes trends and changes in patient status and plans appropriate interventions directly or indirectly through other nurses.

Qualifications

·       ADN, BSN, MSN, or CNL from an accredited School of Nursing required.

·       Active RN License and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers required.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, safety standards, and MedStar SPIRIT Values. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Begins to collect and analyze the principles of patient-centered care based on the physical, psychological, socio-cultural, economic, spiritual, and life-style behaviors and efficiently leveraging available technology.
  • Provides relationship-based care that promotes continuous, consistent, efficient and accountable delivery of nursing care using the nursing process with a favorable focus on patient experience.
  • Identifies immediate requirements for care based on the nursing assessment.
  • Begins to incorporate evidence-based practice and research into patient care delivery with a focus on quality and safety.
  • Recognizes ethical discourse in practice and patient care delivery, seeking appropriate resources for patient and family support.
  • Practices within legal boundaries of nurse practice act and possesses a theoretical understanding and demonstrates the application of the universal ethical principles.
  • Individualizes patients plan of care, focusing on short term goals and identifying health teaching needs of patients and families.
  • Begins to prioritize and delegate tasks to peers and ancillary staff as appropriate to scope of practice and unit requirements.
  • Communicates the patient's information clearly and accurately in verbal and written format.
  • Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment. Identifies actual and potential patient safety issues and acts accordingly while incorporating HRO quality and safety principles.
  • Practices problem identification and demonstrates critical thinking and clinical reasoning to establish new priorities for the patient's plan of care. Follows the chain of command by consulting with other healthcare professionals and seeks assistance as needed.
  • Evaluates patient progress towards short-range goals and revises nursing interventions as appropriate.
  • Initiates and monitors discharge planning activities in collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Engages in professional growth and development through reflective practice from performance feedback and participates in entity professional development activities.
  • Supports and contributes to the unit, department, entity, and organizational goals inclusive of the mission, vision, and values.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree In Nursing (BSN) from an accredited Nursing program preferred and
    • If prepared at the associate degree in nursing level, required to enroll in a BSN program within 6 months of hire date and completion within 3 years required

    Experience

    • Prior work experience not required

    Licenses and Certifications

    • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Current license as a Registered Nurse in the state or jurisdiction of the facility seeking employment Upon Hire required and
    • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation CPR certification required by completion of introductory period. within 30 Days required and
    • C-EFM - Electronic Fetal Monitoring Perinatal nurses (labor and delivery, antepartum, antenatal testing) must obtain certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) from the National Certification Corporation (NCC) within 12 months from date of hire. New graduate nurses or new to specialty nurses (labor and delivery, antepartum, antenatal testing) will have 15 months from date of hire to obtain the EFM certification. required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Basic computer skills required.
