General Summary of Position
Under the guidance/direction of the Director of Perioperative Services, the Operating Room Technician assists the Registered Nurse in providing safe and efficient patient care.


Minimum Qualifications
Education

  • High School Diploma or GED Required or
  • equivalent. Required and
  • Graduate of an accredited Operating Room Technician course Preferred or
  • equivalent. Preferred
  • Experience

    • Entrance into preceptorship program Required and
    • 1-2 years Operating room experience Preferred

    • Primary Duties and Responsibilities

    • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
    • Remains current in knowledge of surgical procedures and maintains standards of asepsis.
    • Organizes and prepares room supplies, instruments, and equipment as indicated by the physician' preference.
    • Assembles and inspects power and endoscopic equipment prior to use and provides physicians with appropriate instruments and equipment during surgical/endoscopic procedures.
    • Performs instrument, needle and sponge count with R.N. according to established procedures.
    • Handles specimens according to established procedures.
    • Cleans and re-stocks rooms as appropriate.
    • Assists with instrument assembly and wrapping and demonstrates proper operation of sterilizers.
    • Cleans instruments according to established procedures, handling instruments safely and in a proper manner while using proper protective apparel.
