General Summary of Position
Receives, inspects, stores, delivers, and issues materials, supplies, and equipment. Maintains inventory levels by checking shelves, restocks supply carts, and maintains supply records.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Acts as liaison for all replenishment orders, managing recalls and product conversions within designated areas of assigned responsibility.
  • Assists in the care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies.
  • Conducts daily replenishment actions for primarily non-stock inventory items supporting OR, SPD and OR rooms; performs shelf audits, verifies order quantities and places orders. Receives and puts away daily orders received for primarily non-stock supply items. Handles special orders with different levels of impact on OR operations. Makes accurate assessment for specified procedures.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Ensures consumable supplies are rotated regularly and accurately controlled to reduce obsolescence, expirations and waste within an inventory location. Coordinates product recalls.
  • Ensures that supplies and equipment received are processed and distributed in a timely manner. Plans, organizes and directs all phases of product distribution activities. Plans and coordinates the transfer of materials. MaintainsOR storage locations in a neat and orderly fashion making sure that bin location labels are complete and accurate.
  • Loads or unloads material, equipment, merchandise and supplies from supply delivery carts for OR inventory. Routes incoming goods to the assigned location. Arranges adequate space allocations for storage of products and modifies distribution techniques and practices as required.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with other departments and participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
  • Monitors par levels/quantities and review with each end-user on a periodic basis report results to Manager OR Material Services. Adjusts levels and quantities as recommended. Modifies racking configurations to accommodate changes in par levels/quantities or the introduction of new products under supervision of Manager OR Material Services.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Plans, prepares, executes, and performs scheduled physical and cycle count inventories of assigned areas assists with post-inventory problem resolution for hospital's annual physical inventory, working directly with Supply Chain Management Leadership Team and department management appropriately.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the MedStar organization.
  • Receives incoming materials, supplies, and equipment and compares information on packing slip with purchase order to verify accuracy of shipment against purchase order. Inspects shipments for damages or defects, records discrepancies or damages in shipment, and notifies supervisor or purchasing personnel.
  • Receives requests for supplies, selects stock from inventory, loads distribution vehicles, and distributes supplies and special instruments to requisitioning departments. Obtains authorization for accepted items.
  • Resolves shipping errors including overstock, understock, and damaged item by communicating with supervisor and completing all item return activities.
  • Utilizes inventory management system to evaluate current inventory level, identify potential over stock and identify potential obsolescence and forwards information to Manager OR Material Services for reports.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • High School Diploma or GED required or
    • equivalent. required

    Experience

    • Less than 1 year 6 months related experience required and
    • Experience working with computerized inventory management systems preferred

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Ability to perform mathematic calculations including addition, subtractions, multiplication and division.
    • Verbal and written communications.
    • Ability to read, comprehend and write the English language.
    • Basic computer skills preferred.
