General Summary of Position
Plans and performs analysis of hospital operations to perform detailed studies in areas of hospital revenue, expenses, statistics, product lines and services. This position reports to the Budget Manager and works closely with the AVP Finance.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans and performs analysis of hospital operations and service lines; develops verbal, written, and graphic presentations required to effectively communicate findings and recommendation concerning staffing, organization, equipment, facilities, data systems, volume, revenue, and operating expenses. Identifies potential project in specific areas, determines objectives and scope of projects, and develops plans to implement projects.
  • Designs mechanism for collection of data regarding such topics as workload, financial performance, etc. Interacts with department management and staff to become familiar with department and clinical operations.
  • Determines the kind of data to be collected and identifies the resources necessary with which to effectively collect the data. Interpret and explain complex data to management and other key stakeholders to make sure they understand how to make use of the data collected.
  • Identifies data to be collected and using techniques such as data base analysis, collects required information. Conducts operational and financial analysis of department or areas through interaction with department personnel.
  • Works with department management to develop implementation plans and coordinates changes in department to streamline and improve departmental use of financial and data systems. Develops work plan and identifies time requirements and schedule for project completion.
  • Prepares scheduled and unscheduled reports for all current projects. Supervises department staff in multi-person projects, to include editing materials prepared by staff members prior to distribution.
  • Organizes and documents findings and prepares recommendations for implementation of new systems, procedures, and changes; discussing and securing approval from management.
  • Assists management with implementation of activities to ensure smooth functioning of newly implemented systems or procedures. May install new systems and train personnel in application of same.
  • Prepares reports indicating pertinent information to management for use in policy formulation, budgeting, business plans, forecasting, long range planning, and the like. Provides technical liaison services to management, other organizations and vendors,
  • Assists in the training and development of other financial and operational staff.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree Industrial or Management Engineering, Business Administration, Finance or Accounting required

    Experience

    • 3-4 years of progressively more responsible including using data systems, as well as spreadsheet, work processing, and data base applications required
    • Experience with Hyperion and Peoplesoft preferred
    • Experience in collecting and analyzing healthcare data (cost accounting, budget, decision support, productivity, etc.), including financial and management analysis leading to quality improvement preferred

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Strong knowledge of personal computer spreadsheets (Excel) and database management
