General Summary of Position

MedStar Health is looking for a Strength & Conditioning Specialist to join our team!  

As a Strength & Conditioning Specialist, under general direction, you will teach safe and effective lifting techniques and proper spotting procedures; select exercises and instruct athletes in execution of exercises. Executes athletic development programs consisting of speed, strength, power, coordination, and flexibility. Provides nutrition counseling; designs long-term training programs for athletes; and collaborates with coaches to develop customized training protocols; assists in management of strength and conditioning facility.

Primary Duties: 

  • Attends events with leaders in the local business and athletics community. Develops relationships and provides support with local charities. Consistently follows safe work practices during all job-related activities which includes following recommended use guidelines for patient treatment related equipment. In accordance with our service standards, holds safety first for all patients, visitors and team members, and patient and staff interactions.  

  • Contacts, cultivates, and expands relationships with area high schools and club programs to increase the volume of athletes participating in the program. Distributes marketing materials and creates social media content to increase awareness of the program throughout the community. Answers phone inquiries, email inquiries, scheduling, and billing.  

  • Enables athletes to perform to their physical potential in their sport through the development and management of individual and group weight, strength and fitness training programs; develops programs by evaluating current physical conditioning, having a knowledge of the various sports and associated exercises, tailoring strength programs for specific needs, demonstrating proper performance of exercises, correcting mistakes; manages programs by monitoring progress and providing an assessment of development.  

  • Enforces facility policies and helps maintain a clean training center and equipment. Negotiates and executes terms of contracts with area high schools and club programs. Obtains and documents pertinent medical history, performance of specific assessments, initial status, progress, goals, and results. 

  • Reduces the likelihood of sports-related injuries or the aggravation of such injuries during practice sessions and scheduled contests by being knowledgeable of the injuries sustained in the sport and proper prevention methods, directing appropriate pre-training session and pre-contest preparations and warmups, and working with qualified sports medicine personnel or athletic trainers during all training sessions and contest. Teaches clients through instruction and demonstration utilizing movement mechanics, sport specific exercise modalities, and the individual client's physical capabilities 

 

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's degree in exercise science or related field.  

  • 2 years of strength and conditioning experience. 

  • CSCS Certification by the National Strength and Conditioning Association, or SCCC Certification by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association or Health Fitness Instructor by the American College of Sports Medicine. 

  • CPR (Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation) certification. 

  • Master's degree preferred.
