General Summary of Position
MedStar Health Harbor Hospital Clinical Laboratory is a seeking a Team Lead of Medical Laboratory Scientist to serve as a resource technologist in Core and Blood Bank areas. Troubleshoots technical and service problems; monitors and reviews quality control (Q.C.) and performance improvement (P.I.) data; performs special projects; and, assists the supervisor with other administrative and technical functions as directed. Performs a variety of routine and special laboratory procedures in one or more laboratory sections; evaluates and reports results for use in patient diagnosis and treatment.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • May assume the duties of the supervisor in the event of his/her absence.
  • Monitors and reviews daily quality control (Q.C.) and performance improvement (P.I.) data to confirm that tolerance limits are not exceeded. Investigates Q.C./P.I. problems and implements corrective actions. Performs CAP surveys and evaluates survey results; investigates survey failures and recommends corrective action.
  • Monitors, maintains and oversees laboratory equipment and supplies in assigned area(s) of responsibility. Assures that preventive and corrective maintenance is performed and documented.
  • Performs a wide variety of routine and special procedures following prescribed protocol and using manual or automated methods; calculates and reports results as established; consults with pathologist regarding difficult analysis or abnormal findings.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology required or
    • related science. required

    Experience

    • 2 years progressively responsible related experience required but 5 years strongly preferred to include Blood Bank experience.

    Licenses and Certifications

    • ASCP - American Society of Clinical Pathologist ASCP preferred or
    • equivalent certification preferred

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Working knowledge of various computer software applications.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
