Overview:

 

The Director - Ethics provides leadership to clinical ethics services through consultation, education, and policy development. This position serves the hospital and clinicbyworking collaboratively with physicians, patients, families, co-workers, and health ministry leaders to facilitate ethical decision-making consistent with the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services and the integration of Mercy Values.

The Director supports the integration of the mission of the Mercy Health Ministry by their participation and leadership of mission and formation activities.

The Director-Ethics performs related duties as assigned in a mannerconsistent with the Mercy mission, values, and charism.


Qualifications:

  • Education: Masters degree in Ethics, Theology or a related academic training acceptable

  • Experience: Clinical health care ethics and practice

    Other skills & knowledge:

    • Understanding of clinical issue.

    • Must demonstrate initiative, good judgment, and leadership ability.

    • Willingness and ability to represent and apply the moral teachings of the Catholic Church to clinical issues.

    • Must be capable of clear thinking, communicating effectively and of travel as required by the job.

    • Must be able to use/learn to use the comprehensive electronic medical record.

  • Preferred Education: Ph.D. in moral theology or moral philosophy with a specialization in health care ethics

  • Preferred Experience: Five years in clinical ethics consultation orhealth-care experience
