Overview:

 

Assists with the accuracy, reliability and integrity of the Master Patient database to ensure patient safety for all clinical and financial systems dependent on this data.


Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Preferred:  Associate Degree or bachelor's degree in health information or related fields.        
  •  *Preferred:  Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA)
  • Competencies:
    • Thorough understanding of database and IT systems, policies and processes
    • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of coding guidelines is preferred. 
    • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of applicable federal/state laws and accreditation standards related to health information management is required. 
    • Attention to detail.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Self-starting, independent individual.
    • Highly motivated and organized problem solver.
  • Experience:
    • HIM/Medical Records:  Minimum 2-3 years in HIM/medical records;
    • Minimum 1 year experience with MPI and/or Analysis.
    • Medical Record Regulatory Requirements:  Detailed working- HIPAA, TJC Regulations, Federal/State Regulations, etc.
    • Analytical Skills:  Advanced required
    • Problem Solving Skills:  Advanced required
    • Data Analysis Skills:  Advanced required
    • Research Skills:  Advanced required
    • Computer Skills:  Advanced required
    • Microsoft Office:  Advanced required
    • Knowledge of the Health Record:  Detailed required
    • Medical Terminology:  Required
    • EHR Terminology:  Advanced Required
    • Scanning Documents:  Preferred
    • Coding/Billing Knowledge:  Basic Required
  • Preferred Licensure:  RHIT or RHIA
  • Preferred HIM Experience:  Minimum 5 years in an acute care medical records department; Minimum 3 years' experience in MPI or Analysis role in an acute care setting
