Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Directs and handles all activities associated with selecting, maintaining, and retiring intermodal lift equipment for a region supporting safe, efficient, economical and reliable equipment to support intermodal operations.

 

Principal Duties:

  • Establishes and oversees NS' intermodal assets maintenance policies and compliance system wide
  • Supports and improves NS' equipment reliability and availability
  • Oversees maintenance contract compliance
  • Provides technical expertise to quickly return equipment to service
  • Develops and establishes alternative component options
  • Develops and administers expense budgets.
  • Communicates with internal and external organizations, including customers, contractors, suppliers, other railroads, and regulatory agencies.
  • Establishes working relationship with and leads maintenance teams
  • Perform terminal audits and machine inspections
  • Position requires seven day a week responsibility, emergency call-outs, and frequent overnight travel when assistance for troubleshooting is required

 

Job-Related Experience:

  • Minimum Level: 3-5   
  • Preferred Level:  6-10

 

Education:
   Preferred Level:  Bachelor's Degree (BS)

  • Engineering - Electrical Engineering
  • Engineering - Mechanical Engineering
Skills and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of hydraulics, mechanical, electrical systems
  • Understanding of industrial control systems including software logics and hardware
  • Understanding technical schematics
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills
  • Working knowledge of diesel engines
  • Working knowledge of maintenance planning
