We are excited to announce the opening of our New Graduate Nurse Residency program at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital (NVRH). This comprehensive residency program is designed to provide recent nursing graduates with the tools, knowledge, and support needed to excel in their nursing careers.

New Graduate Nurse Residency Program Information:

  • The next Residency will begin in the summer of 2024
  • New Graduate RN positions are full-time
  • The applicant must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
  • Applicants should submit a resume and cover letter, which includes their NCLEX date.
  • Applicants must have a Vermont or multi-state RN license by the start of the program.
  • Applicants must have a current BLS through the American Heart Association
  • Current employees must apply online as a transfer

Departments that may have availability are: Med Surg, Emergency, ICU, Operating Room, Day Surgery

The Nurse Residency Program at NVRH focuses on Nursing Leadership, Patient Outcomes, and Professional Roles. The program will last 32 weeks and is required for all new graduate RNs. There will be in-person learning sessions on a weekly basis for the first 12 weeks that last 8 hours each. We will provide didactic and active learning, including simulation, case studies, and guest speakers. After the first 12 weeks, we will continue to meet monthly until graduation at week 32.

  • Conflict Management: Ensuring the safety of the patient and health care team. Conflict and de-escalation management.

  • Management of the Changing Patient Condition: Patient deterioration, critical thinking, working with multidisciplinary teams, and chain of command.

New Graduate RNs are supported by preceptors who have had at least 2 years of nursing experience, and have completed a preceptor course. Nurse Residency Program participants will have daily debriefs with the preceptor, and structured scheduled meeting with the preceptor, director and educators on a routine basis.
