POSITION SUMMARY:    Performs patient registration duties including but not limited to the collection of patient demographic information, data entry, and the coordination of patient consent forms.  Handles routine patient inquiries or issues, and works closely with other departments and physician offices.

 Performs basic clerical duties including data entry, filing, faxing, preparing documents, sorting and distributing mail, and operating office equipment. Assists patients with questions regarding hospitals bills and processes payments.

 

Ensures adequate departmental supply inventory is maintained.

Provides reception and clerical support for the department.  Receives and directs all incoming calls and relays pertinent messages to others while maintaining accuracy, clarity and confidentiality. Exercises good judgment and discretion in all communications and escalates issues as appropriate.

Interviews patients in person or by phone to obtain all required information for hospital records and billing systems. Registers or Pre-registers all scheduled patients for admission, partial hospitalization, and outpatient services according to department policies and procedures.Obtains bed assignments from appropriate department(s). Follows up with the nursing station, keeping patient/family informed when no bed is immediately available. Maintains an awareness of patient level of comfort during wait. Advises the Patient Access Supervisor and/or nursing station if the patient is unable to wait. Notifies nursing units of patients going to rooms, when appropriate.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent (GED)

One year previous experience in a registrar role

Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills, ability to read/comprehend written instructions, ability to follow verbal instructions, PC skills/Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, etc.
