Description

Ochsner Health is currently seeking a board certified physician to serve as Medical Director of the Ochsner Cancer Institute.

Dual reporting to the system Chief Medical Officer of Ochsner Health System and the Regional Medical Director of the Southshore Region, the Medical Director of the Ochsner Cancer Institute will provide the clinical leadership, direction, vision and oversight to build upon the existing strong foundation to advance the system's comprehensive, multi-site and regional oncology strategic plan. As the administrative physician leader of the program, the System Medical Director will work in a close and supportive dyadic partnership with the Vice President, providing the clinical leadership and expertise to advance the clinical, financial, operational and strategic goals for Ochsner Cancer Institute.

The System Medical Director will align community providers and employed physicians in the shared vision for advancing quality and service-based on evidence-based best practices. The System Medical Director will participate in the recruitment and integration of high performing physicians, expand clinical programs and services to provide comprehensive cancer services and care with an inter-multidisciplinary care team approach. In addition, the Medical Director will expand research for advancing care by providing leadership over Ochsner Cancer Center's rapidly growing Experimental Therapeutics/Phase I Research Program and fostering continued collaboration across the Ochsner MD Anderson partnership.

Essential Functions:

Planning & Organizing

· Support a regional vision, strategy, goals and objectives of The Cancer Center in collaboration with physicians and other providers of cancer care, Departmental Chairs and lead physicians of Ochsner Medical Group and the Ochsner Health leadership team

· Design, implement and manage appropriate organizational structures to achieve departmental and organizational goals in alignment with the Ochsner Health System Cancer Service Line strategic plan

· Oversee Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center partnership activities including:

o Adherence to all Ochsner MD Anderson Partnership standards

o Oversee physician participation agreements and credentialing

o Development and execution of partnership strategic priorities

· When applicable, has joint responsibility with the appropriate medical staff department chair(s) in meeting or exceeding:

o Program patient experience/satisfaction goals

o Support of fundraising and donor development for the program

o Achieving standardized physician best practices within the program

o Assuring an adequate physician work force to meet the needs of the program's patients

o Engaging medical staff who use the program in support of the program's role in Ochsner Health System's strategic plan

· Define models of clinical practice, establish productivity measures and determine resource and education requirements to assure the highest quality standards for clinical practices across the Oncology Service Line

· Develop and strengthen resources, programs and services with a continuing focus on quality improvement, cost-effectiveness and productivity enhancement

· Provide for and facilitate a multidisciplinary approach to cancer care and prevention, which enhances patient and provider experience

· Support and enhance existing programs that promote comprehensive care of cancer patients including: Multidisciplinary Groups, Survivorship Programs, Genetic Counseling Programs, Palliative Care and Hospice Services, Patient Navigation and other programs determined by best practice or the Commission on Cancer

· Oversee care management and outreach activities to include prevention, education, screening and early detection, support care, complimentary and integrative oncology

Financials (in partnership with the Vice President of Cancer Services)

· Plan and prepare the program's budget recommendation to executive management

· Help the administrative leader implement the approved budget, and monitor the program's operational and capital budgets to ensure sound fiscal management consistent with the goals of Ochsner Health System. Take the lead on engaging physicians who use the program in efforts to meet budget goals

· Oversee the administrative and financial aspects of Research programs and studies to maintain Commendation status with the Commission on Cancer and identify opportunities for research grants and contracts

· Develop, support, and provide dyad leadership guidance for initiatives that increase the value of cancer care, both in cost reduction and in quality improvement, for patients, payors, and care providers.

· Establish innovative programs to measure and improve outcomes and costs and to proactively explore new reimbursement models, in accordance with Ochsner Health's strategic plan, current healthcare policy, and emerging and future national healthcare trends

Managing & Leading People

· Provide leadership to the Multidisciplinary Physician Council, which consists of leaders from medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, each disease-specific team, research, the regional cancer centers, strategic partners, and their appropriate administrative partners.

· Recruit, train, motivate and lead the appropriate staff as necessary to achieve and ensure effective succession throughout management levels

· Provides appropriate support to medical staff department chairs in medical staff development, medical staff functions of credentialing/privileging/peer review, medical staff quality improvement and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation through the provision of quality outcomes data, and physician leader development at Ochsner

· Engage community leaders and promote community awareness/support for Ochsner Cancer Institute, including the promotion of community outreach screening and education programs

Service Excellence

· In collaboration with the Vice President of Cancer Services, identify the direct and indirect customers served by the program, determining appropriate products and/or

services based upon customers' needs, measuring customers' satisfaction and developing actions that continually improve services

· Ensure physicians and other staff embrace Ochsner Health System's mission to Serve, Heal, Lead, Educate and Innovate

Performance Improvement

· Develop and implement evidence-based/best practice standards of care in alignment with quality metric standards

· Lead and drive oncology services performance improvement activities related to Clinical Quality Improvement initiatives, including Core Measures, evidence based practices, length of stay and adverse outcomes

· Develop and maintain a complete quality monitoring system for Ochsner Cancer Institute, reporting on key quality improvement indicators and quality data trends to executive and clinical leaders.

· Direct the System Quality Committee in partnership with Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, and subspecialty Surgical Oncology leaders, contributing to enterprise-wide implementation and monitoring of quality initiatives

· Advance initiatives for integration and standardization of care pathways, including both outpatient and inpatient therapy, multidisciplinary care, and clinical research across all system and partner sites.

· Develop data reporting capabilities to report and refine both processes and outcomes in cancer care, optimizing existing tools such as NSQIP, QOPI, and Vizient.
