Physical Therapist-Office of Student Support

Job Summary:  
Provides qualified students with a program that will enable them to reach appropriate educational goals
based on current evaluation results.To promote positive attitudes about and toward Special Education and
to assist the District Student Support Services in meeting program and audit compliance
requirements.

Provides direct physical therapy service to enhance gross motor development including muscle tone,
strength, range of motion, reflex development, ambulation and coordination skills for eligible
students whose disability is educationally significant. Conducts physical therapy evaluations, completes
necessary reports, and assists members of the IEP Team to understand those results.
Recommends special equipment, materials and consultant services to the IEP Team.
Participates as a member of the IEP Team, assists in the development of appropriate goals and objectives
for students requiring Physical Therapy services. 

Assists classroom teachers of students requiring Physical Therapy services by implementing the IEP
consistent with the needs of the student and in accordance with District procedures. Assists the classroom teacher
in determining whether the physical therapy goals for the student are being met by maintaining a data base which performance.

Maintains a log of contacts (medical, parents, teachers, etc.) including dates, locations, type of
communication and brief content summary. Confers frequently with parents and professional
staff members regarding therapeutic problems of eligible special education students.

Qualifications:  Current Type C Alaska Certificate. Eligible for State of Alaska Physical Therapy License.
