Description

The Senior IT Security Engineer functions include daily operations of the security solutions (Firewalls, Endpoints, Cloud Security, Email Security, IDS/IPS, etc.) and the identification, investigation, and resolution of security incidents detected by those systems.  The Senior IT Security Engineer is responsible for providing guidance and education to more junior security administrators.  Secondary tasks may include the development and/or implementation of security solutions, which fit into the security architecture.  The Senior IT Security Engineer is expected to be fully aware of the enterprise's security goals as established by its stated policies, procedures and guidelines and to actively work towards upholding those goals.

The IT Network Security Team is responsible for the development, enforcement and monitoring of network security controls, ongoing segmentation of security zones, and for the delivery of network security services.  Additionally, the team will be responsible for the configuration of policy to prevent network-based threats and attacks. The team will also play a role in network detection and monitoring and in staying apprised of current security threats.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Architect and deploy security solutions which solve security needs and fit appropriately within the Paycom environment.
  • Provide direction to Paycom's current security program and continues to push it forward.
  • Drive the creation of enterprise security documents (policies, standards, baselines, guidelines, and procedures).
  • Manage global security projects and communicate progress to team members and management.
  • Demonstrate a mastery of best practices for network and endpoint security solutions.
  • Perform the deployment, integration, and initial configuration of new security solutions and of any enhancements to existing security solutions.
  • Maintain up-to-date baselines for the secure configuration and operation of all in-place devices, whether under Information Security control (i.e., security tools) or other asset owners (i.e., workstations, servers, network devices, etc.).
  • Maintain and administer operational configurations of in-place security solutions.
  • Review logs and reports of all in-place devices, whether under Information Security control (i.e., security tools) or other asset owners (i.e., workstations, servers, network devices, etc.).  Interpret the implications of that activity and devise plans for appropriate resolution.
  • Support end users and assist IT to resolve network and endpoint related problems.
  • Monitor and interpret security system events and analyze potential threats and vulnerabilities on networks.
  • Perform analysis of network traffic and alerts to assess, prioritize and differentiate between potential intrusion attempts and false alarms.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Collaborate with IT, security, human resources, and legal to ensure full legal compliance of company policies, procedures, forms, notices, and materials.
  • Document and report on specific duties, activities, problems solved, and issues resolved.
  • Perform additional duties and assignments as requested. 
  • Work outside the standard office 8-hour workday may be required with on-call availability


Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Cyber Security or related field
  • Industry relevant certification required.

Experience:

  • 9+ years of Firewall Administration and/or network security administration

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • Industry Certification (GCIH, GCIA, GMON, CISSP, GSE, PCNSA, PCNSE, etc.) preferred.

Experience:

  • 9+ years of Network administration
  • 3-6 years of Automation or Scripting
  • 3-6 years of Orchestration

Skills/Abilities:

  • Extensive experience with IPS/IDS, packet/traffic analysis and related tools
  • Extensive Experience with information security principles and practices to include, but not limited to, the following areas: Next Generation Firewalls; Network Intrusion; Virtual Private Networks; Host Based Security; Malware Prevention; Cloud Security; Email Security; Container Security; Data Loss Prevention; Digital Forensics; Security Information and Event Management systems.
  • Expert experience with Microsoft operating systems and with network devices
  • Strong Understanding of scripting languages (Python, Powershell, Bash, T-SQL (MySQL/MSSQL), PHP, Perl, JavaScript, C#, HTML) is recommended but not required.
  • Experience with the following Operating Systems is recommended but not required: Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Kali Linux, Debian), iOS (current versions), Android OS (current versions), macOS (current versions)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly responsive with an ability to handle escalations quickly and professionally.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Maintain effective working relationships with supervisor and coworkers.
