MEDICAL ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR SUMMARY Instruct and implement the Medical Assistant program to educate students in accordance with the curriculum standards and objectives. CAREER PREP INSTRUCTOR SUMMARY Implement the Career Prep Curriculum Sequence and instruct students in accordance with curriculum standards and objectives.

MEDICAL ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Implement and evaluate daily lesson plans for students to include scheduled activities and materials of modules.
  • Plan instruction to achieve specific objectives based upon student need and established curriculum.
  • Evaluate the performance of students regarding achievements in curriculum and activities and make necessary provisions to meet learning needs.
  • Maintain student attendance and grades in accordance with established policies.  Prepare final grades at the end of each module to update student records and transcripts.
  • Arrange and coordinate guest speakers, community service field trips, and visits to clinics and medical offices.
  • Prepare lectures and practical demonstrations for students in class and individually.
  • Assist and advise student with Medical Assistant program curriculum.
  • May assist with the inventory and ordering of supplies and equipment.
  • May assist and coordinate externships for Medical Assistant students.
  • Monitor students in the classroom. Assist students and ensure safety precautions are adhered to.
CAREER PREP INSTRUCTOR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Instruct students in the foundation courses such as mathematics, computers, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, study skills and first aid.
  • Plan instruction of the foundation courses to achieve syllabus objectives.
  • Prepare lesson plans that align with established curriculum and address student needs.
  • Assist students in transitioning from the Career Prep Sequence to the Professional Sequences.
  • Monitor student attendance and inform the Associate Director/Student Services staff when three or more consecutive absences occur. Prepare weekly attendance reports for the office management staff.
  • Review student retention rates and implement plan to reduce student withdrawals. Maintain an 80% student retention rate for all classes taught in the sequence.
  • Maintain student grades in accordance with established policies.  Prepare final grades at the end of the sequence to update student records and transcripts.
  • Evaluate the performance of students regarding achievements in curriculum and activities and make necessary provisions to meet learning needs.
  • Monitor student academic progress and inform the Associate Director/Student Services staff when a student's grade average for any course drops below 77%.

MEDICAL ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or a graduate of an otherwise recognized training entity (e.g., hospital-based program) in Medical Assisting and three (3) years of occupational experience as a Medical Assistant OR
  • A minimum of four (4) years of job-related training and experience for those instructors who are not graduates from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Current licenses, certifications, or other designations as required by local, state, or federal laws to work in the Medical Assistant field, with the exception of those teaching in non-core (e.g., general education) courses. 
  • Verbal and written communications skills.
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and computer skills.
CAREER PREP INSTRUCTOR MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate Degree from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.  
  • Three (3) years of instruction/teaching experience.  
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, documented by post-secondary education or job experience in the subject matter. 
  • Must hold a current teaching license, certification or other designations as required by local, state or federal laws. 
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education or experience that meets the minimum qualifications. 
  • Verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point and other computer skills.
