Description

Rio Grande Cancer Specialists is currently seeking a skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our team. As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you will be responsible for administering radioactive drugs to patients for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. They operate imaging equipment to capture images of various organs and tissues within the body, assisting physicians in diagnosing and treating medical conditions. Additionally, they ensure the safety and comfort of patients throughout the procedure while adhering to strict radiation safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Preparation: Prepare patients for nuclear medicine procedures by explaining the process, obtaining medical history, and addressing any concerns or questions they may have.
  • Radiopharmaceutical Administration: Administer radioactive drugs to patients orally, intravenously, or through other appropriate routes according to the physician's orders.
  • Imaging Procedures: Operate specialized imaging equipment such as gamma cameras, PET scanners, and SPECT scanners to capture images of the targeted organs or tissues.
  • Quality Control: Perform routine maintenance and quality control checks on imaging equipment to ensure optimal functioning and image quality.
  • Radiation Safety: Adhere to strict radiation safety protocols to minimize radiation exposure to patients, staff, and themselves. This includes proper handling, storage, and disposal of radioactive materials.
  • Image Analysis: Process and analyze images to ensure they meet diagnostic standards. Collaborate with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to interpret findings accurately.
  • Patient Care: Monitor patients during and after procedures to ensure their safety and comfort. Provide appropriate care and support as needed.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of procedures, patient information, and radioactive materials used in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Continuing Education: Stay updated on advancements in nuclear medicine technology, techniques, and safety protocols through ongoing education and training.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure effective patient care and accurate diagnosis.
Skills:
  • Proficiency in CT, X-Ray, ER, and other medical imaging techniques
  • In-depth knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
  • Strong understanding of nuclear medicine principles and practices
  • Ability to perform diagnostic evaluations using medical imaging equipment
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to accurately interpret images
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with healthcare professionals
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining patient comfort and safety
Requirements:
  • Valid certification as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) -in nuclear medicine technology)
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or associates degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or related field (preferred)
  • Current licensure or eligibility for licensure in the state of practice (Texas)
  • CPR certification (preferred)
