The Bioinformatics Assistant will join the growing dry division in the Laboratory of Human Genetics of Infectious Disease and aid in the handling of an expanding dataset of whole exome/whole genome sequences from 15,000 individuals with a wide range of infectious diseases, including COVID-19. Will be involved in the evaluation, development, validation, and implementation of new tools for the genetic data analysis; including generating bioinformatics pipelines, testing/validation of scripts, and running web servers. Responsibilities include assisting in data acquisition, analysis, and annotation for depositing to federal databases. Will also aid in providing bioinformatics support to laboratory members and external collaborators. Additional responsibilities include maintenance of in-house servers and communication with IT for university-managed servers. The laboratory offers an excellent multidisciplinary environment comprising computational scientists and experimentalists.


Bachelor's degree in science required; educational emphasis in bioinformatics, computer science, or related fields preferred. Must have familiarity with Linux environment and shell script writing/running. Must have programming experience in Python or equivalent. Knowledge of SQL database development and prior experience in next-generation sequencing data analyses is a plus. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Motivation is a must.
