Provide direct support to the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear Matters regarding the national strategic deterrent and the Nuclear Enterprise Modernization. Advise on the development and oversight of DoD Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Survivability policy. Implement guidance, requirements, and organizational initiatives related to nuclear weapon effects survivability, electromagnetic pulse (EMP) survivability, and other U.S. activities. This position is an onsite role located at the Pentagon.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare papers and briefings on nuclear weapon effects, strategic radiation hardened (SRH) and radiation hardened (RH) microelectronics.

  • Write and report on electromagnetic pulse, the nuclear stockpile; nuclear weapon operations; nuclear threat detection; nuclear accident/incident response. Contribute on the national response framework (response to a nuclear–radiological incident); emergency response and consequence management.

  • Be the SME on nuclear enterprise and infrastructure transformation; nuclear weapons effects, survivability from nuclear weapon effects; nuclear weapon program requirements and radiation detection initiatives.

  • Coordinate/attend/participate in the CBRN Survivability Oversight Group for Nuclear (CSOG-N) meetings, Strategic Radiation Hardened Electronics Council (SRHEC) meetings, and other meetings across branches of government and industry.  

  • Provide support to the Strategic Radiation Hardened Electronics Council (SRHEC), the Defense Microelectronics Cross Functional team (DM CFT) and prepare reports for delivery to the President, Congress and/or to the National Security Council. 

  • Review documents and findings while contributing to studies and task forces.

Qualifications

  • Top Secret/SCI security clearance is required.

  • Bachelors and fifteen (15) years or more of related experience; Masters and thirteen (13) years or more experience; PhD or JD and ten (10) years or more experience.

  • Graduate degree in (nuclear) physics, nuclear engineering, radio-chemistry (chemistry), materials science, mathematics or related science field is required. Doctorate-level degree in nuclear engineering or nuclear physics (or related field) is strongly desired.

  • High-level quantitative and qualitative analytic and technical skills.

  • Ability to confidently and credibly execute presentations to senior executives. Coordinate actions across the DoD and the Interagency. Developing clear courses of action summaries with recommendation for senior executive decision makers. 

  • Demonstrated experience in the establishment of positive and productive work relationships with DoD clients.
