Department Overview

The OHSU School of Nursing in Monmouth is located on the Western Oregon University campus. WOU is Oregon's oldest public university and is in the heart of Oregon wine country. Monmouth is 61 miles from Portland and 20 miles west of Salem, Oregon's state capitol.

This postholder will be apart of the dedicated team supporting student learning within the simulation suite and on-campus clinical learning labs (CLLs). In addition to the delivery of simulation and CLLS, the post holder will contribute to faculty and staff training and development in relation to simulation and skills development.

The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.

9-month:

  • Instructor (MSN or equivalent): $76,927 - $88,466
  • Assistant Professor (MSN/DNP or equivalent): $82,005 – $111,690
Function/Duties of Position

Clinical Activities (not related to teaching or research):

  • Plans and supervises student clinical learning labs, simulation, and/or clinical experiences or practica based on teaching assignment.

Scholarly Activities (research/writing, abstracts, grant supported work, presentations, etc.):

  • Participates in scholarly activities based on faculty rank.
    • At the Assistant Professor rank or higher, faculty in the practice mission, demonstrates competence in an area of clinical expertise and engages in inquiry and scholarship that contributes to the practice of clinical practice.
    • At the Assistant Professor rank or higher, faculty in the research mission advance a program of research, prepares grants and seek funding, and engage with other missions to foster inquiry within the SON.

Education Activities (include types of teaching and types of student taught):

  • Provides effective clinical, simulation and didactic instruction based on teaching assignment using appropriate instructional technologies to ensure that course outcomes are met. Participates collaboratively in the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum.
  • Mentors and advises students.
  • Faculty in the doctoral program supervise students in dissertation and/or clinical inquiry projects.

Service Activities:

  • These activities could include faculty meetings, committee membership, professional activities and other responsibilities as assigned by the Program Director.
  • Participates in faculty governance; additional engagement based on rank.

Administrative Activities:

  • As negotiated.

Other Activities: Clinical Lab/Simulation specific activities will include the following:

  • Collaborate with faculty to design, implement, and evaluate clinical learning labs, open skills sessions and simulation-based learning experiences which adhere to evidence-based best practices.
  • Coordinate with simulation faculty and staff on the operation and maintenance of high, mid, and low fidelity equipment, audio-visual equipment, learning center software and computer equipment.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a standardized patient (SP) program.
  • Facilitate training of new equipment, technology, and other materials for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Remain current with healthcare technology, simulation technology and simulation pedagogy.
Required Qualifications

Education: (Degree dependent on academic program type and rank of position.)

  • Instructor: MSN or equivalent
  • Assistant Professor: Ph.D./DNP or equivalent

Registrations, Certifications and/or Licenses: (Current licensure & certifications could be required depending on position and academic program.)

  • Oregon RN license
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)

Experience: (Experience dependent on academic program type and rank of position.)

  • 2 years of clinical practice experience required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctorate preferred. A doctorate is required for ranks of Assistant Professor or higher.
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or the Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS), or being certification-eligible for either.
  • Three years of clinical practice experience required; teaching experience at the baccalaureate level or higher preferred. Experience working in simulation preferred, though consideration will be given to an experienced educator who has not worked in simulation
