Overview

The Vermont Health Department is seeking a leader to manage the Healthcare-associated Infections (HAI) Program. The HAI Program works to detect and prevent healthcare-associated infections and antibiotic resistance by detecting and responding to cases and outbreaks in healthcare facilities and expanding prevention efforts through collaborations. 

The position supervises program staff and oversees the program's objectives and budget. The position also guides the scope and activities of the State HAI Plan, determines the role and responsibilities of the state HAI Advisory Committee, and identifies future goals and direction for the HAI Program. The position reports to the State Epidemiologist for Infectious Disease. Work can be performed fully in person or partially remotely.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
Successful candidates will have effective supervision and leadership skills. They will have a clear and transparent communication style and be detail oriented. They will be able to think strategically and critically about the goals and direction of the program.

Knowledge of the health care system and infectious diseases is desired but not required.

It is a Limited Service position, which is non-tenured and authorized for a specific period of time. Limited Service positions are established for specially funded projects or programs.

AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS:  Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.  In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in several settings, including office and a variety of premises. Field travel is involved. Overnight stays might be necessary. There might be exposure to infectious diseases, although frequency is likely to be minimal. Interaction with the public is involved, some of whom might participate in illicit activities. Public fear may occur as a result of an outbreak.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in epidemiology AND two (2) years at a professional level in public health.

OR

Master's degree in a health, public health, social science, or humanities field supplemented by three semester credits in statistics or epidemiology AND two (2) years at a professional level in public health.
