We are seeking a dedicated Core Faculty member to join our Family Medicine Residency Program-Akron. The selected candidate will become a member of the Summa Health Medical Group, a multi-specialty group practice of 400+ physicians.

As a Core Family Medicine Faculty member, you will play a vital role in the education and training of our residents. Our Program has a 52 yr. tradition of excellence in Family Medicine resident education. Your clinical expertise and passion for Family Medicine will help shape the future of healthcare professionals. While previous teaching experience is desirable, it is not required. We welcome candidates with a strong clinical background and experience who are enthusiastic about teaching and mentoring residents.

Summa is one of the largest integrated Healthcare Delivery Systems in the state. With 2 hospitals, over 20 health centers, an employed multi-specialty physician provider organization, an Accountable Care Organization, and a health insurance company, Summa Health provides access to care throughout the entire region of Northeast Ohio.

The Family Medicine Residency Training Program

Currently the program has 24 resident positions (8-8-8), is accredited by the ACGME with Osteopathic Recognition, and is PCMH (NCQA) certified residency practice. We practice full spectrum Family Medicine with continuity OB as well as a dedicated Inpatient Family Medicine hospital service. The Family Medicine Center is committed to the service of our community through a model of multidisciplinary care that includes medication assisted therapy, integrated Behavioral Health, embedded Social Services and offers extended services via a fresh Food Pantry as well as a Medico-Legal partnership.

Opportunity Highlights:

  • Seeking full time employment; open to range of .8 FTE to 1.0 FTE
  • Salaried position offering competitive compensation commensurate with years of experience. Additional stipend for Hospital Service. Separate stipend for OB call. Bonus for performance on quality metrics.
  • Monday through Friday business hours, holiday weekends are paired with week of service (most is two holidays on call). Inpatient work is minimal, majority of role will be outpatient clinic.
  • Night call is in correspondence with OB coverage, once a week.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree (BC/BE)
  • At least 2 years previous practice experience required, inpatient rounding required, OB practice desirable
  • Unrestricted Ohio Licensure or willingness to obtain
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Commitment to academic excellence and resident education
