Our Boise, ID office is currently seeking a Mid to Senior level Biologist / Ecologist/ Botanist to help develop projects and lead field monitoring, surveying, environmental assessments, and reporting for a variety of projects across the western United States.

 

Responsibilities:

·         Synthesize and interpret biological information and prepare technical reports.

·         Analyze potential impacts on biological resources for a variety of projects and clients.

·         Support project managers and other technical staff with permitting and client-agency communications.

·         Manage biology tasks and act as task lead for field oversight and technical writing tasks (coordinating field logistics, overseeing surveys and managing field staff).

·         Support permitting efforts and prepare field survey reports and mitigation, survey, and monitoring plans.

·         Prepare biological sections of NEPA documents (EAs and EISs), and other documents required under the NEPA and the Endangered Species Act. 

·         Field data collection and leading QA/QC including botanical, wetlands, streams, soils, and wildlife field surveys, monitoring, and mapping.

·         GIS and software support using ArcGIS Pro, Field Maps, and Survey 123.

 

Requirements:

·         Master's degree (preferred) in applicable field such as biological science, botany, ecology, environmental science or natural resource management.

·         Five to seven years of professional experience related to plants, wildlife habitats, and ecological assessments.

·         Field experience with plants and habitats in the West, Intermountain West, and Great Plains ecosystems.

·         Applied knowledge of ecological assessment, environmental impact analysis, natural/biological resources management and habitat conservation planning.

·         Experience with GPS equipment and ArcGIS or similar mapping program is preferred.

·         This position requires strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, and high level of interpersonal communication skills, organizational and time management skills, attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks. 

·         Should have the ability to work independently, communicate clearly and/or work closely with team members located across other offices.  

·         Demonstrable technical writing/editing ability, commitment to quality in both work processes and products, and willingness to assume new roles are critical.

·         Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project are necessary to perform the responsibilities of this position.

·         Prior experience in private sector or ecological consulting business is desirable.

·         Must possess a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and be able and willing to travel for field assignments and meetings.

·         A strong background of coursework and/or experience in botany, soil taxonomy, ecology, and field data collection. 

·         Course work in natural resources, plant identification, botany, soils, rangeland plants, agriculture, or crop science (or related field).

·         A pre-employment drug screen in compliance with federal regulations is required, along with a physical if needed.

·         Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

 

Other Desirable Knowledge and Experience:

·         Knowledge and experience in fieldwork plant identification and use of dichotomous keys.

·         Knowledge and experience with biological surveys, wetland and stream identification and delineation and a variety of vegetation sampling techniques such as line-point intercept and other methods.

 

Physical Demands & Work Environment (during field work opportunities):

·         Bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs. and have a tolerance for working in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions (extreme hot and/or cold).

·         Applicants must be willing to work in difficult conditions and often miles from a vehicle.

·         Ability to perform manual labor including excavation with shovels (wetland delineations).

·         Availability to work some extended hitch rotations during the field season, with overnight travel for up to 8-10 days at a time.
