Tetra Tech seeks a Specialist in Ecological Toxicology and Risk Assessment to join our team. In this role, you will provide technical strategies to our clients and share best practices for evaluating and mitigating risks to ecological receptors and environmental liabilities. You will help grow the depth and breadth of our ecological risk practice area by identifying business opportunities and providing technical expertise to risk assessment, ecological, and engineering projects focused on using remedies that protect ecological resources and sustain ecological species diversity. This position requires the candidate to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.

Your Role :

 •    Develop, design, and implement ecological risk assessments for contaminated sites.
•    Develop ecotoxicological and bioconcentration/bioaccumulation study design, particularly for PFAS, for proposals to research grant programs (e.g., DoD SERDP).
•    Engage as a Seller/Doer of ecological risk assessment services for Tetra Tech with new and existing government and private sector clientele.
•    Supervise the performance of Screening Level Ecological Risk Assessments (SLERAs) and Baseline Ecological Risk Assessments (BERAs). Conduct habitat assessment, ecotoxicity assessments, and risk characterizations.
•    Provide ecological assessment and risk mitigation targets and strategies to CERCLA Remedial Designs and RCRA Corrective Measures Studies.
•    Support the development of sampling and analysis plans for various media including soil, groundwater, surface water/sediment, indoor air, and tissue.
•    Manage the preparation and provide senior technical review of reports for submittal to clients. 
•    Support clients with regulatory agency negotiations. 
•    Facilitate the career development of junior to mid-level risk assessors.   
•    Act as lead ecological risk assessor on proposals and projects.
•    Prepare and make presentations at scientific symposia and conferences and for client support.
•    Participate as an instructor teaching ecological risk assessment courses.

Qualifications:

•    PhD in toxicology or biology and 15 to 20+ years' related experience in government, environmental consulting, and/or academia required.
•    Experience as an SME for ecological risk assessment required.
•    Diplomate of the International Board of Environmental Risk Assessors (IBERA) or Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology (DABT) a plus.

•    Strong technical analytical skills and demonstrated excellent technical writing and verbal communications skills are fundamental to this position.
•    Research or work experience with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in environmental investigation or effects highly valued. 
•    Working knowledge of CERCLA remediation process required. Knowledge of RCRA and relevant state regulations and DOD and state risk assessment guidance are preferred.  
•    Experience in applying appropriate statistics in study design, environmental chemical data analysis, and remediation compliance a plus.
•    Proactive and customer-focused work acumen; working well as a subject matter expert in ecological risk assessment in a team environment with clients, other consultants, and regulators.
•    Risk communication experience with clients, stakeholders, and at conferences and professional organizations – ability to present complex technical information in a concise and accurate manner.
•    Expert witness and litigation support experience a plus.
•    Experience supporting the development of cost-effective remedial strategies for contaminated sites.
•    Experience with project management, including cost estimation, budget, schedule tracking, and maintenance throughout the life of projects.
