Tetra Tech invites you to consider a rewarding opportunity within our Philadelphia, Pennsylvania field office as an Industrial Hygiene / Environmental Technician. As an IH Technician, you will assist a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to oversee the real time collection of asbestos field data at sites throughout the City of Philadelphia. 3-5 years of experience preferred in asbestos, lead, and environmental related projects, and current certifications as an asbestos inspector.  Philadelphia asbestos investigator as well as HAZWOPER are desired but not required. Construction/building systems background experience preferred. A current driver's license is required. Clear driving record within company standards.

Your Role:

This position requires field and office activities for oversight and quality control of asbestos inspections, lead-based paint inspections, and environmental projects primarily at project sites in the City of Philadelphia.

The field requirements will include working second shift (primarily 3-11PM) and may require occasional weekend.  Depending on the client's schedule, sporadic day shifts will be available.  

Office duties will include job safety analysis, data evaluation, and reporting. Tasks associated with reporting may include the preparation of text, tables, charts, and figures.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year experience (3-5 preferred) performing AHERA asbestos inspections with strong organizational and communication skills.  
  • Must be proficient in identifying and classifying potential and suspect asbestos containing materials to ensure proper oversight of subcontractors. 
  • Must be proficient in quantifying and calculating quantities of building materials as well as interpreting floor plans. 
  • Must be proficient in collection of bulk samples for asbestos analysis and managing chains of custody in accordance with industry standards as necessary.  
  • Must be highly motivated, customer focused, and work well in a team environment while operating with autonomy.
  • Must be able to drive a motor vehicle and pass a motor vehicle records check
  • Must be familiar with asbestos bulk sampling and chain of custody procedures.  
  • Must be detail-oriented and organized.
  • Must have strong communication skills. 

Education and Certifications:

A Bachelor's degree is desired, but not required.  OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER, EPA AHERA Inspector required and Philadelphia Asbestos Investigator license desired.  

Physical Demands:

Must be able to routinely climb stairs/ladders.

Must be able to carry documents and other materials up to 25 pounds for short periods of time.

Work Environment:

The position's primary work environment is in client facilities during the second shift (i.e. 3pm-11pm).

The successful Applicant must be able to pass a Federal Criminal History Background Check, A Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Record Check, and a PA Dept. of Public Welfare Child Abuse History check.  Routine drug testing may be required for access to client locations.
