Project Summary: 

The Middle East and North Africa Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Services (MENA MELS) Activity delivers high-quality technical support for monitoring, evaluation, and learning to the Middle East Bureau, its ten field missions, operating units, and implementing partners. Project services include monitoring systems, evaluations, assessments, and research; analysis and synthesis; learning and utilization; and MEL capacity building and training. Position Summary:

The Translator will provide live interpretation of spoken Arabic into English during one 90–120-minute workshop focused on photography basics and six 60-minute drilldown sessions on specific photography topics under this activity.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Live translation of spoken Arabic workshop presentation into English, including spoken content by the presenters and audience.
  • Translate English back to the audience in Arabic if necessary.
  • Respond to questions from English speaking presenters in real-time (back-channel), such as a question about an on-screen visual.
  • Be available for technical preparation session and review of materials/notes prior to the workshop and drilldown sessions.  

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum a bachelor's degree in social sciences or equivalent work experience in related field is required.  
  • Minimum three years of experience in translation services in English and Arabic required.
  • Experience working on development projects with donor groups required.
  • Strong writing, reading, and speaking skills in English required.
  • Proficiency in local languages, Arabic and English required.
