Description

Job Specific Competencies: 

  • Perform routine, complex and specialized tasks involved in the installation, maintenance, servicing, modification, troubleshooting and calibration of complex therapeutic, diagnostic or life support biomedical instrumentation by interpreting engineering and vendor information, schematic diagrams and graphic illustrations.
  • Document the introduction of new therapeutic and diagnostic equipment, corrective and preventive maintenance actions and special requests as required.
  • Diagnose and correct system and equipment malfunctions by making alterations, repairs or replacements to ensure that biomedical instrumentation and internal circuitry meet specified requirements; make necessary calculations for computing circuit elements necessary to adjust circuitry to specified requirements as instructed.
  • Improve or make special test setups to conduct functional checks of medical electronic test equipment.
  • Provide technical assistance and instruction to Thompson Health System personnel in the operation and maintenance of equipment; provide recommendations regarding purchase of biomedical instrumentation.
  • Provide technical assistance and instruction to Thompson Health System personnel in the maintenance and operation of equipment; recommend the purchase or acquisition of biomedical instrumentation or related accessories; advise supervisor of equipment deficiencies as required.
  • Meets departmental performance indicator standards on a consistent basis.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Demonstrates initiative and concern for planning, time utilization, and cost containment.
  • Maintains good personal relationships with fellow workers, nursing and medical staff, and the general public.
  • Completes assigned work orders in a timely manner, per HR.01.005, Acceptable Performance Standards For Associates Assigned Work.
  • Completes all Work Order documentation including description of work completed, date, actual time required to complete the work, and returns all completed documentation to Facility Services Assistant Coordinator by the end of the work week in which the work is completed.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work place.
  • Develops and implements a plan for professional growth.
  • Performs all duties related to this position as they are needed.
  • Provides mentoring and precepting to other Biomedical Equipment Technicians and may provide leadership in managing short-term projects.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Qualifications: 

  • Associates Degree in Electronics or Biomedical Equipment Technology or equivalent work experience.
  • Certification as a Biomedical Equipment Technician through the International Certification Commission or equivalent.
  • A valid New York drivers' license with a good driving record.

Education:

  • Work requires a background in electronics normally acquired through a two year Associate degree program in Electronics or Biomedical Equipment Technology, or equivalent work experience, to become familiar with biomedical devices common to a health care facility.

Experience: 

  • Four (4) years related experience in a health care setting acquiring competency in applying biomedical and electronics principles.

 

Starting Pay: $25.00 - $30.00

Pay Range: $25.00 - $28.00
