Stroke Coordinator Position Summary

The System Stroke Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and implementing services and activities related to the primary stroke centers at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional and TidalHealth Nanticoke. He/she functions as a liaison between the physicians, nursing staff, allied healthcare professionals, patients and their families. The Coordinator will also have a key role in the Neuroscience Service line as relates to support of the disease specific focus on stroke care and outcomes. The Stroke Coordinator will work closely with physicians and nursing to ensure evidenced based clinical care pathways are followed, as appropriate. The Stroke Coordinator participates in program development as it relates to the primary stroke centers. This includes, but is not limited to staff education, community education, and marketing. Key accountabilities also include collaboration with the Stroke Program Medical Director, program planning, development and implementation of stroke center initiatives. The Stroke Coordinator will monitor quality standards for responsive service including data management of key quality indicators. Responsibilities include the planning, organizing, evaluation of patient care and coordination of all elements of the Stroke Program

Stroke Coordinator Position Requirements

  • Master's degree in nursing is preferred
  • Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Registered Nurse
  • Minimum of 5 years specialty nursing experience preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience working with stroke patients
  • Demonstrates organizational ability by using time and equipment effectively.
  • Works under pressure of time and accuracy, often in stressful situations.
  • Works with patients and families in crisis situations and emotional/mental alterations.
  • Demonstrates skill and accuracy in written and oral communications.
  • Frequently works with grieved, despondent, angry and mentally disturbed patients.
  • Works with numerous expensive and complex instruments which may include IV controllers, hypothermia units, vacuum regulators, computers, portable and bedside monitors and other specialized equipment.
  • Has thorough understanding of proper working order of equipment and reports maintenance needs promptly.
  • Is conscious of and participates in cost containment efforts.
  • Communicates in a courteous, accurate, and timely manner with: patient, family, significant others, physicians, visitors and other health care team members.

Stroke Coordinator Schedule

  • May be assigned to day, evening, or night shifts or a combination of per departmental need.
  • Scheduled off most major holidays per year.
  • Required to work weekends as needed.
  • Expected to work overtime on occasion

Stroke Coordinator Benefits
