Summary of Job Duties: The Assistant Administrator for Patient Care is an integral part of the Arkansas Children's Triad Leadership team and works closely with Service/Section Chief(s) and ACH director(s) to support the missions and visions of UAMS and Arkansas Children's, jointly set and ensure the strategic direction of the Section. This position will facilitate patient and family-centered care including patient satisfaction through dissemination of data from, and sharing data in support of Arkansas Children's scorecard in accordance with AC and UAMS policies and facilitates research and educational strategic missions and initiatives. The Assistant Administrator for Patient Care directs UAMS administrative and financial responsibilities for identified sections and serves as the primary liaison to centralized campus functions such as human resources and revenue cycle management. The Assistant Administrator for Patient Care is responsible for fostering provider relationships and ensuring all provider activities including patient schedules, operations, patient volumes and other activities are maximized through collaboration with ACH leadership. The role of the Assistant Administrator for Patient Care is to provide leadership and facilitate horizontal collaboration, communication and to fully support interdisciplinary and team performance.

The Assistant Administrator for Patient Care manages human resources, finance and budgeting, and section operations. Uses judgment and experience to apply an advanced knowledge, skills, methods, and practices, conducts analysis and problem-solving to plan and prioritize a varied workload that involves developing solutions to emergent issues, time-sensitive and/or confidential projects, and complex problems. The Assistant Administrator for Patient Care collaborates with the Section Chief and ACH leadership to develop provider workforce plans, JFR's and recruitment strategies.

The Assistant Administrator for Patient Care supports Arkansas Children's Hospital leadership and staff through assisting the Section Chief in operationalizing practice responsibilities and facilitates the enforcement of ACH guidelines and policies. The Assistant Administrator for Patient Care provides information, including but not limited to CFTE, WRVU benchmarks and actual performance, with the ACH leadership team regularly and as requested. Assistant Administrator for Patient Care is charged with providing ACH counterpart with sufficient and timely information such that ACH can develop templates for scheduling of patients.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, health care administration, finance, accounting, or related field plus ten (10) years of business administration, health care administration, finance, accounting or related OR

  • Master's degree in business administration, health care administration, finance, accounting, or related field plus eight (8) years of business administration, health care administration, finance, accounting or related required.

  • Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) preferred.

Additional Information:


  • Ensures the delivery of optimal financial, budgetary and operational support to the sections and its leadership.  This requires rapid response to organizational needs, including adhering to Department budget processes and timelines, as well as assisting the Director of Finance with the creation and management of the budget, preparing financial and variance reports, conducting internal audits and financial reviews and conducting special financial projects as needed. 

  • Development and implementation of the annual budget includes expense budgeting and revenue projection related to appropriated, discretionary, endowment and gift revenues, as well as grants and contracts.  

  • Ensures all reporting and tracking requirements are followed to comply with the rules of the contracting or granting entity and is responsible for compliance with all applicable UAMS rules and procedures. 

  • Assists with the implementation of the department's faculty compensation plan. 

  • Tracks faculty productivity, salary distributions and faculty assignments to accurately report and project faculty effort allocation and productivity.  

  • Responsible for purchasing, travel, and financial transactions. 

  • May create and monitor recharge centers/core facilities. 

  • Oversees prompt payment of invoices and related research of any errors. 

  • Provides expertise and assistance to faculty regarding grant/contract preparation, budgeting and reporting, in collaboration with College or UAMS centralized services.

  • Collects data, prepares reports and compiles statistics for section use. 

  • Provides and interprets monthly and annual data to the section chiefs.

  • Responsible for departmental staff recruitment, hiring, supervision, training and performance management, as well as creating an operating environment where efficiency, effectiveness and service are priorities.

  • Provides leadership and guidance to management and administrative staff, coordinates activities of the staff and distribution of the workload to ensure appropriate mission support for the section. 

  • Focuses on developing a talented workforce by guiding the staff to engage in appropriate educational and training opportunities. 

  • Conducts annual evaluations and goal setting with the staff, to reinforce the section/department mission and relevance of each position to accomplishing departmental goals. 

  • Works with the UAMS Office of Human Resources to ensure compliance with all UAMS and departmental rules and procedures. 

  • Facilitates faculty recruitment, hiring, resolution of immigration issues and requirements, promotion/tenure processes and performance management/evaluations under the leadership of the section chief. 

  • Provides ongoing decision support and analytics for the section.  Works with Section Chief to development/implement performance goals and objectives. 

  • Collaborates with the Department, College, other UAMS divisions and ACH on business development activities, such as contracts, grants and fundraising. 

  • Oversees business aspects of section's clinical practice at Arkansas Children's Hospital.  Works with ACS Practice director to implement clinical practice initiatives and policies.  

  • Provides analytics regarding clinical practice and recommends changes that would positively impact the practice. 

  • Responsible for working with and maintaining relationships for the sections with leaders at UAMS and ACH. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
