Summary of Job Duties: The Transplant Financial Coordinator (FC) duties are to evaluate financial coverage for patients being considered for solid organ transplant, including the pre-op and post-op period. The FC will verify insurance benefits, including pharmacy, and obtain pre-authorization for services from third party payers. The FC will also educate patients/family members, and/or care givers in a clinic setting and /or an inpatient setting on the financial requirements of transplant. Exceptional communication, interpersonal skills and vast knowledge of solid organ transplant insurance contracts and benefits, including pharmacy, are required to effectively interact with the patient, family members, and/or caregivers.
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business or a related field plus three (3) years of experience in healthcare revenue cycle or revenue cycle related function OR a High School Diploma/GED plus seven (7) years of experience in healthcare in a revenue cycle related function.

Responsibilities:

  • Obtains detailed patient insurance benefit information and verifies coverage and medical benefits

  • Explains financial obligation, payment options and assistance programs to the patient

  • Discuss benefits and other transplant financial issues with patients and/or family members, advises patient on insurance and billing issues and options, and serves as a resource for patients and their family members on financial matters

  • Communicates with others regarding potential approval of patients and provides updates and reports regarding financial clearances on patient
