Summary of Job Duties: The Health Information Specialist – Incomplete Records manages patient information and is responsible for the review and analysis of medical records according to the standards of TJC, Arkansas State Health and UAMS guidelines and assigns deficiencies.

We collaborate in policy and program development, implementation, and evaluation using best practices in delivering quality service. All duties will be performed in accordance with the UAMS Core Concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care set forth by UAMS. These core concepts allow for an approach to health care that shapes policies, programs, facility design and staff day-to-day interactions. It leads to better health outcomes and wiser allocation of resources, and greater patient and family satisfaction. The core concepts of patient and family centered care consist of Dignity & Respect, Information Sharing, Participation, and Collaboration.

Manages patient information and is responsible for the review and analysis of medical records according to the standards of TJC, Arkansas State Health and UAMS guidelines and assigns deficiencies; reviews numerous work queues in the electronic health record to ensure a complete medical record; reviews and reassigns declined deficiencies as necessary; must understand workflows, medical record requirements, and integration for multiple medical record systems, including but not limited to: Epic, OneContent, 3M Dictation/Transcription.

Direct communication with the UAMS College of Medicine physicians, department chairs, residency coordinators and Service Line Leadership; provides training for new physicians in the use of multiple electronic medical record systems and the hospital dictation system.

Manages the Physician OR scheduling hold program; maintains and reviews the Medical Records Clearance work queue on a daily basis, communicates outstanding Epic In Basket folders/messages to providers and managers to prevent incomplete charts/deficiencies and clear for departure from UAMS; assists providers via phone and in person with any Epic In Basket issues. Builds review queues for outside and internal audits in OneContent and Epic Release to Inspector.

Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Interacts with and assists the public in a professional and friendly manner as needed. Demonstrates effective communication skills; communicates accurate and complete information; maintains strict confidentiality when necessary. Demonstrates positive working relationships with co-workers, management team, and ancillary departments; follows the Core Concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care and the Basic Code of Conduct Guidelines. Assist internal and external stakeholders as needed with exceptional customer service.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree or Associate's Degree in Health Information Management or a related field plus 2 year of experience or High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

RHIA or RHIT certification preferred.
