Summary of Job Duties: The Research Associate I, will serve as a member of a close-knit, dynamic research team. On an on-going basis the Research Associate I, will assist with the conduct of research activities including VA and UAMS IRB. The Research Associate I, will serve as the project director/manager on multiple grants. He or she will serve as the primary point of contact for the grants and will work close with the PIs of the grants. He or she will assist the PI in the design, implementation, evaluation and presentation of the research projects.
Qualifications:
  • Associates Degree plus 7 (seven) years' research experience or Bachelors Degree plus 5 (five) years' research experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be able to work independently and communicate well with the research team.
  • Must be experienced in regulatory affairs affiliated with the VA and UAMS IRB.


Additional Information:

Project Direction / Management:

  • Manages and directs every aspect of the projects that he is assigned.
  • Responsible for day-to-day management of the projects.
  • Oversees the recruitment and enrollment of study subjects and the accrual rates and referral sources.  
  • Works closely with the PI(s). He or she will coordinate and lead project meetings.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for the projects.
  • Familiar with federal qualified health centers and how to get them registered.
  • Facilitates the transfer of information and process of communication between the study staff, the PIs and others.
  • Develops training modules related to the study as well as be knowledgeable about technology such as telecommunication and phone apps.
  • Reviews the budget with the PI, make revisions, and make recommendations on how best to manage the budget.
  • Develops and monitors timelines to meet project goals. He or she must oversee each phase of various projects, develop and implement systems for tracking various components of project, manage and maintain research files, data files and research protocols.
  • Participates in the publication of research findings.

Technical Assistance

  • Responsible for site coordination set up for each project such as making sure equipment is on site and computer apps are working properly. Provides technical assistance, monitor protocols and act as liaison and point-of-contact between the PI, other programs, and the IRB.
  • Works with UAMS departments providing technical and writing assistance, provide logistical details for project implementation, and assist with ongoing problem solving by evaluating issues and developing potential resolutions.

Supervision

  • Evaluates the study staff to ensure they are meeting standards to enhance the project.
  • Oversees the hiring, training, supervision, and monitoring of two staff members.
  • Assess and evaluate the competencies of the staff members and train the staff as needed.  
  • Other duties as assigned.
