Union Hospital's Cardiovascular Testing department is equipped with advanced technology and trained staff to assist your Cardiologist in assessing your condition and treating you appropriately. Our staff consists of trained EKG technologists, Registered Sonographers and Nuclear Medicine Technologists who aide the physicians in providing the best care possible to our customers. We perform diagnostic exams for patients ranging from neonatal to a geriatric level.

Cardiac Stress Technician Details

Essential Job Duties:

  • Maintains a basic understanding of cardiographic testing according to the requirements of the position.
  • Explains purpose and procedure of all exams to patient prior to the procedure while obtaining patient history and medications.
  • Responsible for logging in all studies performed and entering all appropriate charges into computer.
  • Verifies and corrects data in the diagnostic EKG system. Matches EKG orders with tracings.
  • Retrieves previous EKG tracings where applicable, to be available for comparison during EKG interpretations by the cardiologist in a timely manner.
  • Operates and maintains EKG system, Quinton Stress and treadmill.
  • Schedules and performs Cardiac Exercise Tolerance Tests (to include Lexiscan and PET CT testing).
  • Assists physicians with nuclear stress testing. Proper hook-up, operating controls, observing patient's general condition, obtaining EKGs, blood pressures, and monitoring patient's post-exam per prescribed protocols.
  • Proficient in basic EKG interpretation and is able to recognize lethal arrhythmias and myocardial injury patterns.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma required. CMA or Exercise Science degree preferred.
  • Completion of accredited electrocardiogram program. Certified or certified eligible (CCT).
  • One year of clinical experience in EKG, Treadmill, and Holter monitoring preferred.
  • BCLS certification
  • Flexible schedule to meet the demands of the department.
