Position Summary:   The Biological Sciences Student Affairs (BSSA) office provides support and guidance to undergraduate students throughout their time at UCI. Student Affairs provides academic advising to School of Biological Sciences majors regarding degree requirements, School and University policies and procedures, course planning, degree progress, and campus resources and opportunities. BSSA advisors also provide pre-health professional program counseling to students from all majors. This office coordinates and delivers new student advising and orientation and oversees programs to support sub-populations within the School (e.g. student researchers, 1st generation college students, pre-health students, new freshmen/transfers, etc.). The office staff also facilitates the BioSci Pre-med Postbacc program, which supports the academic preparation of students pursuing a career change into health professions.
  As part of Biological Sciences Student Affairs (BSSA), the Bio Sci Student Affairs Admin Assistant oversees the BSSA reception area; manages administrative tasks related to undergraduate enrollment and degree progress; and assists with purchasing, office management, and event coordination. They will serve as the primary representative of our office at the front desk, greeting visitors, checking students in for appointments, and answering basic advising and informational questions.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $23.67 - $33.52 (Hourly Rate). The Full Salary Range for the salary grade this position is assigned to is $23.67 - $33.52 (Hourly Rate).

Required:  
  • 1-3 years of full-time work experience in a busy environment, assisting others and balancing multiple tasks at once.
  • Verbal and written communication skills, ability to provide good customer service to a range of campus visitors, students, family members, and UCI employees. 
  • Interpersonal skills including empathetic listening, discretion with sensitive information and ability to adapt to many personalities and sometimes challenging interactions. 
  • Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a busy environment.
