Department Purpose

Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) provides primary care, mental health, acute care, laboratory, pharmacy, optometry, health education and counseling services to registered UC Davis students. SHCS serves approximately 300 patients per day during the school year. The mission is to provide campus health and wellness resources that enable students to successfully achieve their academic goals and life-long wellness. SHCS has approximately 200 staff including managers, senior professionals, professional and support staff, student employees, interns and post doc residents. SHCS is accredited by AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care), IACS (International Accreditation for Counseling Services), and APA (American Psychological Association). For more information on the department, see https://shcs.ucdavis.edu. SHCS mental health staff are an educationally diverse group of licensed psychologists, psychiatrists, masters therapists, and pre-and post-doctoral trainees, dedicated to providing student-centered mental health services, advocacy, outreach, and consultation to promote psychological well-being and academic success. Counseling services are offered at no cost to registered students.


Job Summary

Under the direction of the Counseling Services (CS) Director and in collaboration with fellow members of the CS Management Team, serves as the Training Director for the American Psychological Association (APA) accredited Doctoral Internship Training Program and the APPIC-member Postdoctoral Training Program. Manages ongoing clinical education program for licensed CS clinical staff. Provides counseling, assessment, crisis intervention, and outreach services to students, and consultation and outreach to faculty and staff in regard to issues affecting student's well-being and academic success. Provides supervision to CS clinical staff, post-doctoral residents, and doctoral interns. Works as part of a multidisciplinary team. Complies with professional requirements of SHCS and UC Davis policies and procedures as well as all State and Federal professional legal requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Required:

 

Additional Minimum License/Certification

  • Must be currently licensed or eligible for immediate licensure as a Psychologist in the state of California. Governed by California Board of Psychology, psychologists are required to possess a valid license. Psychologist applicants possessing a valid license in another state must obtain California licensure within 180 days after submitting an application to become licensed in California or from date of commencement of residency in California, whichever comes first.

Minimum Education/Experience

  • Experience supervising, training, coaching and evaluating post-doctoral residents and/or doctoral interns.

 

  • Experience and interest in treating diverse individuals using short-term models of individual and group psychotherapy/counseling.

 

  • Experience conducting thorough psychological assessments.

 

  • Experience assessing and intervening when individuals present in crisis.

 

  • Experience establishing professional work relationships

 

Preferred:

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Experience in managing professional staff.

 

  • Experience coordinating a training program (e.g., postdoc program, practicum program).

 

  • Experience providing educational outreach in a University Counseling Center.

 

  • Experience providing services to historically underrepresented or under served students.

 

  • Experience in conducting research/program evaluation, analyzing results, and sharing findings.

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)

  • Knowledge of ethical, legal and professional standards and regulations.
